Why would they take 5 million more to relegate themselves without a replacement? I think it’s going to be very difficult to get anyone at this late stage, hence why PIF have probably called in a favour with Clearlake over Jackson.

It's probably about 20-25m more in terms of his actual value. But i get your point - doesn't seem worth it to sell even at stupid figures for them

If this gets another knock back it might be prudent just to go all in on Jackson, not ideal but he would do a job.

I’m coming round to this if 60 million doesn’t get him. Wissa isn’t happening so that basically leaves Jackson as we don’t do left field and our scouting network is shit.

 

The key is getting the nut job on loan without an obligation.

The fact that Jackson is wanted by Bayern in some shape or form means he could be brought in and then easily moved on, albeit at a loss.

 

We cannot throw away a season in the Champions League. It is more important than future financial difficulties that would likely be solvable by one undesirable sale of a player. Become uncompetitive and many will start wanting to leave.

This is the key here. Chelsea need to sell him, they have no desire to keep him. We can probably negotiate a reasonable fee if Bayern don't want to pay through the nose either. Plus he's only 24 so we shouldn't have to take too much of a loss on him if we decide he's not for us after a season.

I'm usually bang against overpaying. But realistically, it's overpay or play until January without a recognised senior striker.

 

Sometimes you have to overpay.

We wont get Strand Larsen that way.  They dont want to sell him.  If we want him well have to pay what they want.

It is more expensive not to advance in the Champions League and end up outside Europe in the PL, than overpay £10-15M for a striker.

Tbf we tried to do this with Ekitike, but should also have looked at players the cartel clubs didn't have their hooks in.

We've learnt first hand before that good strikers from abroad don't necessarily translate to good premier league strikers. We would benefit from buying someone who is proven at premier league level on this occasion.

Yes, sure, but Strand Larsen could score 0 goals as well, I'm not terribly impressed with him. 

 

Anyway what I'm saying is, our strategy made sense: first try to get Isak replacement from EPL (Joao Pedro), we didn't succeed. Then we tried getting it from outside the EPL (Ekitike, Sesko), we didn't succeed. 

 

Now our targets shifted back to EPL, but what are essentially Wilson and not Isak replacements (Wissa, Larsen), and at this point of the window and the prices that are asked for them, I don't find it to be reasonable, and would rather have us go for a Wilson replacement outside of EPL, maybe at a club that actually be willing to sell.

At this point I would welcome any striker, so I will be happy if Laraen comes, but I'm not sure if spending 65 million £ is very wise, especially is Isak is integrated again.

Is one good PL season enough to call someone a proven at PL level? Plenty of players have had a decent return in a single season that are nowhere near good enough for a club in the CL. Glen Murray, Mitrovic, Jay Rodriguez, Graziano Pelle, Ighalo, Deeney have all scored around 14 goals in a single season over the last 8 or 9 years. You'd have been mental to drop a significant sum on any of those.
