Could be to placate their fans in the run up to a sale, “we didn’t want to sell but the player made his wishes known and despite acting professionally throughout we didn’t want to risk an unhappy player with a hard campaign ahead”. If Wolves signed him for that price and he ends up holding his own in the Premier League, somebody else will pay north of £50m in a year or two.
