New Years Day in 1997.  We were excellent that day just after the spurs 7-1 game as well.

I was invited up for New Years celebrations. The football was a surprise extra. Brilliant day out. That visit made a lasting impression, and here I am still following the club through the dark days to where we are now!

They seem to press high up and go man for man or at least leave a lot of space in behind whenever I've seen them recently.  In some ways, that should suit us.  As we all know how much better we are when the game is stretched and I don't think teams against them have had too much bother finding a way around.  But we're also atrocious at navigating our way round or through/over a press.  I think Joelinton needs to play for that reason, as he is often the out ball and one of our only players good at holding the ball up back to goal when it is clipped into him.  He has a knack of finding space for that mid range pass into him from the back, too.

I suppose you could make an argument for Woltemade for being better at making the ball stick than Wissa, despite not being a target man.  But then Wissa makes the pitch bigger.  Just not sure he'll start 3 games in a row fairly close together?

Looks like Barnes will be starting, with Murphy injured.  I'll say it again even though it won't happen.  But FFS put Gordon on the right and Barnes on the left.  I'm still convinced we'd be a better team that way around when you think of both their attributes.

These will sit deep , I’d actually like Wolte and Wissa to start this one so Wolte can draw defenders to him to make space for Wissa to run onto , however I know I’m probably p*ssing in the wind asking for that

1-0 win regardless

I think we make a few changes, Tino and Trippier in. Hall and Tonali rested with Miley back in midfield. Would expect Wolt in for Wissa as well.

I don't think Trippier starts until the weekend in the cup.  I have a feeling Tonali might play, as well.  Then get a rest on Saturday.

Just based on Howe not always rotating too much and when he made the subs and who came off.

I'd like Miley back in midfield at some point, so Tino in at right back would be good.  But again, I think Miley back into midfield might wait until the FA Cup and all.  Expecting a lot of changes for that, with the semi final coming 4 days later.

I remember Johnny Vaughan on Big Breakfast the next morning saying, "Nigel Martyn, how did you let that Ketsbaia?"

That is a classic!

Agree on just about every point.

We’re due to wallop someone very soon. A bit of luck and it could have been 4 or 5 - 1 on Sunday even if the performance didn’t merit it. Leeds looked very limited against Man Utd, considering it was their big cup final I thought they were second best overall. They are also amongst the biggest cunts in the entire footballing pyramid so hoping for a 4 or 5 nil.

They’ve a lot of quick if small players all over the pitch. Type of team we usually struggle against. Expecting similar to the 0-0 from a few years ago but hoping we can Nick it.

Pope: Miley, Thaiw, Botman, Tino: Ramsey, Tonali, Joelinton: Gordon, Wolte, Barnes

That’s my predicted team. Height in the defence, with Botman favoured over Schar for the psychical battle in the air. Bruno the one rested with Tonali favoured as above (be shocked if we go with same three for 3rd time, and wouldn’t be a good indiction of Ramsey). Barnes RW because Murphy was that poor.

Not looking forward to the cold again like.

Had numb hands and feet. Was the coldest I can remember feeling at the football in years

Put a couple of heat pads on under your clothes. Makes a massive difference.

I was probably a little softer back then, but the coldest my feet have ever been was(weirdly) 20 years ago tomorrow (07-01-06). I kept trying to curl my toes so the residual heat from the bottoms of my feet would give my digits some respite.

Newcastle vs Mansfield (1-0), with Shearer equalising Milburn's record.
