I keep seeing comments like we did something extraordinary which in struggling to understand? Equally, there’s people calling us embarrassing, Howe’s got to go etc. The truth, as always is in the middle. We’ve had a good European campaign and we’ll look back fondly on many of these Champions League nights. It’s the furthest we’ve ever got, and if that’s par, then we’re on the up as a club. We might not have the Super Leagur in name, but they've done everything in their power to maintain the status quo. Everything from the draw, to the coefficient to the favourable refereeing calls, it's a loaded deck. Two of the most lopsided ties were PSG/Chelsea and Real/City. Spurs/Atletico also played each other. That's six "super league" clubs. What about the draw there is dodgy to you? Also how does the referee chose who to be biased towards in that case? Does he just look at the revenue beforehand and decide then?

I met Super Mac, rolled him over and broke his back, go left go left, go left, right, left, go left go left go pick up a stick go left ….” A far cry from todays limited and bland song book. For some reason the "Al give you an N, Al give you an E" song came back to me to other day, with the classic ending 1,2,3,4 listen to the Geordies roar... Newcastle! Newcastle!" great days off the pitch at least.

Jewel
We got smashed on the global stage last night, with the eyes of the whole world looking on. I hope it hasn't damaged our reputation too much. I don't want people lumping us in with the likes of Dinamo Zagreb and Stade Brest on the back of this loss.

Madrid smashed Liverpool, Arsenal got hammered home and away by Munich, Spurs were beaten 5-0 by Madrid. It only damages us if we never improve and appear again. soyt
11 minutes ago, r0cafella said: The result last night I mean the actual shoreline is embarrassing imo. Of course it is. I mean we conceded 7 goals for heavens sake. It is so incredibly bad from the players and coaching staff that surely there is nothing wrong of saying it. How can you give up like that? It is not like we are a non-league club here trying to compete against Barcelona. Of course there is the bigger picture, but there is no way you should ever concede 7 goals. It has nothing to do with PSR or referees or anything - this simply should never happen. And no, i do not want Howe out or think the players are cunts or what ever. But i just can not see how aynone can defend that scoreline.
KDT
It was the same set up and same outcome in the second half as we started in the away leg against City in the league cup. We got outdone by the movement and our inability to track runners.
Gallowgate Toon
The set piece goals are still really annoying me today Maybe he was already injured but I think it's really, really poor from Tonali for the 4th. When the move starts, Fermin is a couple of yards behind him but the move ends and he's 10/15 yards in front with a pretty straight run - Tonali is an excellent athlete, those scenarios are meant to be his bread & butter. We were 5 minutes into the half so I don't think you can say that was about being tired either.
Pokerprince2004
Just gave True Faith podcast a blast this morning for my sins and got to say I'd say it's possibly the worst episode I've ever heard these lads put out. Genuinely made me angry at times. Particularly Norman Rileys views on Howe and the team. Swearing every three or four words like an absolute whopper, saying Howe got obliterated by Flick, 'Only beat fucking Qarabag', we haven't done well at all to get this far and we were atrocious, saying Barca fans probably thinking who the fuck are this lot, could go on and on. Benwell Lad
It was terrible, but no way did that reflect the whole 200 minutes of the tie. It wasn't embarrassing but it was a calamity of a second half. We absolutely matched them if not bettered them in the other three periods of the tie. Let's be honest the draw from the beginning, like the previous CL campaign, did nothing to help us and the timing and manner of the two penalties could not have been worse nor had a bigger overall impact, but that seems to be the way it has gone for us this season. It's over and mainly it was fun, but now the most important thing is how we react on Sunday.

I sit in an office with a mackem and a celtic fan, they gave it the biggun when I got in this morning, just said we played well for the most part and we lost the right way. If we'd have tried to defend (which we are incapable of) then I'd be more pissed off. Went toe to toe, got found out by one of the best teams on the planet. Not that bad really. There's very little jeopardy in the group phase while coefficients ensure that the fixture list will never be overly challenging and that historically more successful clubs receive a bigger pay packet. It's not a conspiracy, it's there in black and white.
AyeDubbleYoo
I'm not embarrassed, I was a little when the mistakes were being made but it is what it is. We know we have mistakes in us when under pressure and we don't have the technical quality of the top teams. We were great for 3/4 of the tie. Next time Sunderland play Barca in the Champions League we can compare notes. Edited March 19 by AyeDubbleYoo

I think getting botted by anyone and concerning 7 is a humiliation honestly. I don't care who does it. I think some people need to realise we have a team full of international and it might not always be best to go toe to toe especially if you think the other side is much better than you are. In a knockout game of the Champions League, away to Barcelona. You're a 5/10 getting knocked back by Ana de Armas at a party and acting like everyone's laughing at you because you got knocked back, when if anything, anyone laughing will be doing it because they're jealous they didn't get invited, or because you think you're in a position to feel embarrassed. Menace
Don't really see how you can downplay getting twatted by Barcelona as anything but an embarrassment but fair enough. The way the team collapsed and lost their head made us look like amateurs.
