Tactics were fine. Hitting that high line on the break.

Can't mitigate for calamitous defending or conceding from set pieces. Not on Howe this at all

Howe coaches the team and Tindall is meant to be a defensive coach, I think they have some responsibility here.

Need to brush it off. Disappointing because I don't think they're great and we were more than a match for 2 and a half games. A mental 20 minutes and gifted them several goals. Need to go and get top 7 now.

Three quarters of the tie were pride inducing; a quarter rage inducing. Not even sure who/what I am angry at (maybe ‘hope’…) but  intend to give full vent to it at the very next opportunity.

There's a few melts on here you could take it out on

No shame in getting beat, they're a good side and not through a lack of effort.

Most disappointing is that 5 or 6 of the 7 are really soft, soft goals are our stock in trade this season, and surely at HT we spoke about staying in the game. At 4-2 someone's got to take control and say nothing daft, no more goals.

Onwards and upwards to Sunday.

That second half was so bad that it kind makes it easier to move on as a fan. So many individual mistakes, and against a team like Barcelona that can score 2/3 even if you do everything correctly, it was always going to be costly. It felt like that penalty before halftime was the key, in the second half we got stuck between a rock and a hard place, and they capitalized in our indecisions, and as soon as the 4th went in, we mentally just collapsed, and folded, which can happen to any team.

That said, I hope we as a club don't get down about it, like Ramsey looked disconsolate after he gave away the 7th, and I don't want the players to wallow in it too much, because as much as it hurts right now, overall for 135 minutes we more than matched them, and where probably the better side, and I think there is a hell of a lot the squad can learn from these two legs, and with a 3 week gap between the Sunderland game and Crystal Palace, hopefully there are some introspective moments and analysis of what we did right and how we mitigate the faults, I think a lot of it will by phycological, given how many times we shot ourselves in the foot, and some tactical, so hopefully next time we're in this position the squad can be better equipped to deal with the pressures.

While it stings now, I can't be more proud of the team as a whole, weve had an excellent campaign in the Champions League, created some excellent moments, scored some wonderful goals, and went toe to toe with probably the best team in Europe for a the majority of the tie, and we did it in an attacking and whole hearted way. Thats my club, and long may it continue.

The fact that Barcelona play significantly less competitive  games in their league also means that they have more energy reserves coupled with a massive squad full of quality

players.

The Premier League need to help clubs in Europe with moving fixtures. PSG and Barca had fixtures moved to help them prepare. Every little helps at this level .

Don't even think that was Barca at their very best tbh, but they were still the most creative, incisive and composed team we've played in a while imo. That young side would blitz the Premier League.

No idea what happened to us, but it seems we just lost our heads and folded under the pressure and gulf in quality. Scoreline is difficult, individual errors were present, but over the two games I have no complaints about the team as a collective.

Not remotely proud of that like. 4-2 yes, but 7-2 come on man,

No more than getting hammered ultimately at City, Arsenal, Liverpool under Pardew and co after playing well for a bit.

Massive gap in spend and quality for those games too.

Disappointing. Assume we were exhausted otherwise the only thing that can explain the difference between the first and second half is that Eddie's been reading about the benefits of micro dosing general anaesthetic.

If you concede soft goals for fun all season long against all opposition including the dregs of the Premier League and even some part timers from Baku then barring a miracle the likes of which world has rarely seen, then you’re going to get absolutely fucking battered away at Barcelona in a high stakes knock out game

May be a simplistic take on a complex issue, but think the penalty just before half time killed us. Get in at half-time level, having come back twice, and they would have come out right in the zone again and ready to run through walls.

Difference is they are shit at back and that keeper looked clumsy but on the ball they can just attack with fluid movement and skill. We don't have that and still have the clumsy keeper and absolutely terrible at defending when we go man to man/press high against class teams.
