I assume they've just been taken down for painting and will be going back up.

That looks so much better and that's the whole fucking point with the stadium. It's not expensive to make it look nice ffs. It doesn't need much, it's not like the walls are caving in.

Gonna say it in here. A massive reason for our terrible home form is our home fans. For far too many the only noise they make is to moan and groan at the players and to boo the team off whenever they don't win.

Must be a joy to play in front of.

That’s bollocks really though isn’t it. Our home support is just the same as it has been for the last number of years, no better, no worse. The biggest problem we have by far, is that, by PL standards, our players aren’t very good.

Correlation doesn't mean causation (we didn't win a home game between November and February last season and the atmospheres were okayish for the most part) but I agree with Sean tbh. This season's home atmospheres have, on the whole, been shocking and it's no wonder the team is far better away from SJP.

The main reason we are (currently) better away from home is that we have a squad of players who are better suited to hanging in with a certain game plan, and then trying to make the most of any opportunities they get. When they are asked to be on the front foot (yes, yes Pardewism), they struggle badly as they lack the quality to cut a teams open. Similar to why we have a terrible record of coming from behind. And, unfortunately, no support, good, bad or indifferent, can make much difference to that.

Did the creatures boo them off the pitch yesterday? Good stuff, like. Support the lads no matter what. No one's gonna tell me to protest.

Pretty sure the boos were aimed at the ref but I could be wrong.

If half the people whinging about the home atmosphere made any effort to improve it themselvesp it wouldn't be anywhere near as tragic as it is.

Probably about 5% we're booing at the end, and each and every one of the nonces shouldn't be allowed within a mile of SJP again.

To use it as an excuse for an utterly putrid, limp display like that us nonsensical. An atmosphere can't really be demanded when that sort of drivel is offered up.

It’s really up to the players to give fans something to get excited about and although we have a poor team, at home we don’t play in a way that would justify a bouncing atmosphere which often manifests itself aomtaneously when we are rallying from a poor refereeing decision or defending a 1-0 lead against a Man Utd with all hands on deck. At home to Fulham playing the way we did?

I’m a big critic of our fans, but our performances at home have nothing to do with the atmosphere or lack of or the fans who are 95% supportive and understanding of the players and relatively calm even when losing or playing poorly against the bottom side in the league.

Totally agree with this. Must be hard to get excited when the football on display is so boring. Fans are reacting to what the see churned up every other week at home and it’s crap.

Early 2nd half in particular the atmosphere was pretty good. As you say though, what happens on the pitch has a big bearing on the atmosphere from the stands as well. When there's nothing to shout about.......

The atmosphere was actually good and noisy, especially in the second half, considering what was being served up on the pitch.

I doubt it was even 5% but if it's audible then it's a story. Let's face it if some were stupid enough to boo Mitrovic then they're hardly going to be able to hold back at the final whistle of a 0-0 draw.
