José Enrique

Liverpool aim to win the league every year. We might chuckle at how far off that they may be at present, and the money Man City have now has made things much harder for them, but that's still their ambition every single season without fail. Buying good players only helps them. In 2008/09 when we were relegated they finished second in the Premier League, hardly eons ago.

The difference in ambition couldn't be more marked. It's absolutely laughable that some are questioning why Enrique would want to go there, irrespective of the pay increase he will undoubtedly pick up.

wouldn't that ambition at all costs have seen torres still wearing red ?

they can afford more than we can right now, it's quite simple really.

How? Their debts are vastly larger than ours.

And they probably cottoned on to the fact that he looks finished.

maybe they are going to take the gamble we did with owen etc, maybe their new owners are going to bankroll them.

edit. interesting to hear spurs saying they may have to sell if they don't make next seasons champs league.

Maybe? So they can't afford more is what you're saying. They're doing what clubs who want to be successful do - speculate to accumulate. They've always done that in the Premiership era. We used to. Who do you think will come off the better for it?

And it's nothing like Owen, couldn't be more different. Suarez and Carroll are on the way up, not down, for a start.

is Cheik M'Bengue any good? Not seen much of him tbh, probably athletic i can imagine but does he have talent as well?

That's enough for me tbh.

You know you're buying a quality player when you can't pronounce their name.

and if it doesn't work, like it didn't for us, do you just keep on spending money  that isn't yours ?

owen wasn't on his way down, at real he scored whenever he played and played well, the injuries just after he arrived here were what fucked him.

leeds thought that, spurs are saying they may have to sell players if they fail to reach next seasons champs league. the choice is to build and trade (which is what keegan done for his first few seasons) or to risk an awful lot on building more debt now in the hope it proves to be a success.

What do you mean by this speculate to accumulate? If you're saying they took the risk of cashing in on their most valuable player and replacing him with 2 inferior players as replacements then that's fair enough, but until we see what the club does about a Carroll replacement with the money we got for him we can't say one way or another if Liverpool are different to us, however if you think they will be spending huge sums of cash net to push on then I don't see anything to back that up.

If they are so keen to bankroll Liverpool then why were they so keen to break even in January?

"The fee for Torres was dependent on what Newcastle asked for Carroll,'' Henry told the Guardian, explaining they simply wanted a difference of £15million.

"The negotiation for us was simply the difference in prices paid by Chelsea and to Newcastle. Those prices could have been £35million [from Chelsea for Torres] and £20million [to Newcastle for Carroll], 40 and 25 or 50 and 35. It was ultimately up to Newcastle how much this was all going to cost. They [Newcastle] made a hell of a deal. We felt the same way.''

Here are a few other quotes from the same interview...

"The big question is just how effective the financial fair-play rules are going to be. Perhaps some clubs support the concept in order to limit the spending of other clubs, while implementing activities specifically designed to evade the rules they publicly support. We can only hope that UEFA has the ability and determination to enforce what they have proposed.''

For Liverpool's part, Henry pledged to live well within the rules.

"We've always spent money we've generated rather than deficit-spending and that will be the case in Liverpool,'' he said, talking about the way in which his Fenway Sports Group operate the Boston Red Sox baseball team. "It's up to us to generate enough revenue to be successful over the long term. We have not and will not deviate from that.''

So I'm not sure where this talk of Liverpool spending big is coming from? In fact they've sold 3 of their 5 best players (Torres, Mascherano and Alonso) in recent windows to help towards team building and I'd put money on another (Reina) going in the summer too.

Here's another interview with one top guys talking about how UEFA should make sure the fair play rule is implemented properly.

Where did I say 'at all costs'? ???

And Torres has been wank for ages now, they mugged Chelsea massively.

how do you know that Jose enrique is a "done deal"?

mandag 11.april 2011 19:14 kai

19:15  Phil Thompson: It's been quite open knowledge in the Premiership - you hear things and they don't deny it. On friday there was a discussion around Joey Barton, and Andy Carroll's transfer to Liverpool and it said that Jose Enrique was following Andy Carroll to Liverpool.

So there's no substance to it at all then. What a fucking bellend.

They certainly weren't aiming to win the league this year, getting back into the Champions League was their aim.

If their players had started running through walls for Hodgson then they wouldn't have been as far adrift. The fact they're giving their all for Dalglish after the pathetic levels of effort and enthusiasm they put in for Woy is nothing short of a disgrace. Same players (on the whole) but they're simply trying now.

They don't deserve European football.

Yeah Champions League may have been attainable for them if they'd put in some effort earlier, and as much as I dislike them I'd have preferred them in their rather then Man City.  Now Liverpool probably won't even have the Europa League next year

I'd actually prefer that Man City get the CL spot over Tottenham or Liverpool.

City are eventually going to buy their way there anyway no matter how much time and money it takes. Might as well have them knock Spurs off the gravy train and kick Liverpool out of Europe for a year on their way.

But their manager is capable of fucking things up and with this win there's a better chance that he will be given the job full time. Dalglish's defensive mindset at Newcastle produced football that would make Sam Allardyce wince. Let's see how he does when the money supply is cut. MON anyone?

Dalglish will fail like. It all seems a bit too fairytale atm. Give him a transfer window (remember they haven't actually spent any money yet 35+15=Torres) and them no Europe and by Christmas they'll back on the downward spiral.

Well Dalglish did more than OK at Liverpool before.  Some managers and clubs are just made for each other and everyone else may mock them for their sentimentality but supporters tend to know what works for their club.  Just like Keegan and NUFC.  Although KK did OK elsewhere, the chemistry he had with us was unique and could never be created elsewhere.

And listening to Dalglish's interviews, you can appreciate why the feelgood factor is back at Liverpool - Keegan had the same knack of making our players and supporters feel special too.
