How come he doesn't get a look in with the national team? Monreal seems to be the back-up for Capdevilla, why isn't Enrique considered?

I'm happy for it to stay that way tbh. I like him being our hidden gem.

Fair point. The worry is he might start to feel like he has to move to a bigger team or back to La Liga to get a look in.

Always remember Ronaldo getting no joy attacking him so Ronaldo switched flanks and ended up with an assist.

One of the few wingers I've seen give him a tough game was sitting on our bench today.

The amount of times wingers knock it past him and he just outpaces and outstrengths them is quality. O0

Oh aye, I f***ing love that like.

Long may it continue.

The lad is absolute class, and the longer he does not get any recognition from media and other managers, the better for us.

Exactly - the longer the stereotype of a dodgy newcastle defender continues the better and hopefully by the time they realise how good he is we will have improved our squad sufficiently to get into europe so he won't want to go anywhere else.

"I don't care about Sunderland. Even if it was Chelsea, I wouldn't be interested" :smitten:

JOSE ENRIQUE has backed his teenage left-back Shane Ferguson to continue to flourish with Newcastle United.

The one-time Northern Ireland international has already caught the eye in the Carling Cup at Chelsea and at Accrington Stanley – but it was his performance at Stamford Bridge that suggested to Spaniard Enrique that he could make the grade at the top level.

Ferguson could well get another sniff of first-team action against Arsenal in the League Cup last-16 clash with the Gunners.

And Enrique has backed Chris Hughton’s cup policy to pay dividends in the future.

The £6m former La Liga star told the Chronicle: “Fergie is doing very well.

“It is very important that they play, and if that means in the Carling Cup then OK, it’s good for their experience.

“He needs to get minutes. It was the same for me a few years ago at Villarreal – they gave me minutes in the cup games. It does you the world of good.

“Training hard is important, but you can’t buy the experience of playing games.”

Enrique has been happy to pass on advice to the 19-year-old but played down talk that he can be classed as a mentor.

And the modest defender admitted he is still learning about life at the top level himself.

He said: “I can’t say I am too senior yet!

“I am just 24, I’m not like Sol Campbell who has played many years and been there, seen it and done it.”

“You just have to pass on the good qualities that you have.”

I like the way how he seems to be genuinely interested in the club as a whole whilst also focusing on improving his game.
