  2. If it’s true that we only have 125m to spend, then getting Joao Pedro for 60m and a RW for 55m leaves us with nothing for Trafford and a defender. I think we can realistically only afford two out of those four if we want players who can truly improve the starting lineup.
  3. Yeah, I remember being really encouraged after that draw against Southampton on the opening day, we looked good. It was away from home we got exposed a lot, we were just so soft-centred and lacked any kind of authority or ability to physically impose ourselves onto a game. 7 goals in 15 away games under SM and miraculously we won two of them - a late smash and grab at Spurs and at Bournemouth where we scored early and Rob Elliot randomly turned into Lev Yashin for the day.

They signed NDong from France for a record deal and he was dreadful
  5. Aye, nailed it. Nut right about the first two games as well, there was some promise there. Evaporated seemingly in an instant though. The place was absolutely stinking again by the time Sheff Wed knocked us out of the cup at home.
  6. With McClaren, you could at least see what he was trying to do with regards to a tactical plan and playing a more expansive game through the midfield, the execution was just unbelievably poor and the squad was a disinterested rabble of self-serving mercenaries with hearts the size of peas. By all accounts a great coach but lacking the personality and clout as a manager to get the team to execute his plan well enough. I do think the whole "grin and say we were magnificent even when we've just been thumped" thing was him trying to protect his players, but it just got old very fast. He was shit but he wasn't a cunt like Bruce, just a nice bloke miles out of his depth who rightly wouldn't have had any other PL job at that point.

Probably heard the massive lads fans were interested and thought they couldn't compete with them.
  8. Same. Had a decent start where we should have beaten Southampton opening day when they were in and around the top 6 at the time, and could have beaten Man Utd away the next week. Quickly became apparent that he was out of his depth though.
  9. He's basically going to have to do in the PL what Jobe did in the Championship for them. Might end up cracking, might be shite never seen him play.
  10. It's not quite as comical as Giacherini in mackem twang but there's definitely shades of it in Habib Diarra.

Feel like these might've got their act together in terms of transfer policy tbh. Certainly compared to the past, when they only sold one player for profit. Shopping in France just seems smart.
  12. I think what people say of Bruce is true of McClaren. Decent guy, competent coach, just massively out of his depth and utterly incapable of arresting the slide towards relegation which had been inevitable since the end of the 5th season. I seem to recall enjoying having someone who seemed to display a vague interest in tactics and playing people in the right position, etc, but ultimately he was nowhere near up to it. Not helped by hopeless squad management provoked by the ownership's policies.
  13. Dunno why Dortmund didn't buy this lad instead of Bellingham
  14. Utterly ridiculous for a competition no-one even watches.
  15. Already missing 8 games due to African nations I think ?
  16. It's the wages if the quoted numbers are true and the inflationary aspect they'd have on other contracts yet to be negotiated. Got to stop looking at these things as transfer fee only.
  17. Popey and Trafford going forward would be a great 2 to have. Hope that’s how it turns out.

They were valued at £40m when he bought them. Who knows what he paid, considering the guys before him got the club for nothing, and were desperate to get out, you’d think he might have got a good deal. The big test of his ownership commitment will be that now they are in the Premier League, how long he will hold onto them when an American consortium will no doubt come looking.
  19. Definitely isn't going to fall out with Mourinho.
