Can't stress enough how important it is that City beat Villa tonight, like. A City win means that Villa basically CAN'T drop any more points in the last 4 games (the max they could hit would be 69). Chances are, they will drop a couple somewhere along the line (away at Bournemouth or Man Utd maybe?), meaning we can feasibly win 2, draw 2, lose 1, and that should be enough (even better if one of those wins or draws is against Chelsea). But if Villa win tonight, they have multiple routes to Top 5, and we're going to have to win 3 and draw one at a minimum. A draw wouldn't be the end of the world, but a City win would be huge for us.

Our record against Liverpool was pretty grim too! -
Brighton is definitely the one that scares me the most. Our record is absolutely honking against them. But, we could and should have beaten them twice this season already, so we can definitely do it.
-
We'll know more after tonight. A Man City win and we would need ten points (3 wins, 1 draw), provided one win is against Chelsea to all but mathematically guarantee UCL. Chelsea would have to win their other four (I really don't see that with their fixtures) just to have a chance of beating us on GD, and with their GD, Villa would likely finish behind us even if they won all of their remaining games. First things first - a professional performance against Ipswich then we go to Brighton with an eight day rest where a point would be fine, and a win would really take the pressure off.

Does Simone just sign people because they're dirty?
-
Winning the three home games should be enough provided Villa don't win tonight . If they do win we are likely going to have to win the three home games and one of the away ones to finish above them .

Echoing others, I think the Villa performance was entirely in keeping with what we've done in similar past games. It's ok, it was budgeted for - no part of me assumed it was going to be a win for us. I think we're more likely to feel Eddie's absence in upcoming games that had plenty of preparation time e.g. Chelsea and Arsenal. I think they would've been exhibitions of what he does as a manager. No need to feel desperate yet, as I've said a few times this season, we get 3 points for whoever we beat. We should put away Ipswich, and looking at the realities of the situation, we should knock any kind of hoodoo nonsense out of our heads against Brighton.

I'd snap your hand off for 6 points against Ipswich and Chelsea with a loss at Brighton. -
According to the predictor I did this morning three home wins would be enough. I had us finishing 5th but 4 points ahead of Villa. I did predict a point at Brighton. I think 3 wins and a draw is more than realistic for us. I may have been too harsh on Villa. Be class to go into the last game not needing anything.

Simeone does like defenders to defend, too. He seems like a South American Bramble a lot of the time. So many good attributes, but just always seems to have a clown moment in him.
-
I think we all agree that any path towards the CL starts with 3 points against both Ipswich and Chelsea. We'll probably need to beat Everton on the final day too. Sneaking a win against Brighton or a point away at Arsenal would be very very handy but not necessarily crucial. The 3 homes are the key

Chelsea have a fairly difficult run in and should drop points given their recent form; Everton, Liverpool, Us, Manu, Forest

You obviously watch far more of Spurs than we do so I'm not going to argue It just feels like it's the manner of the defeats as much as the number of them, Postecoglu seems ridiculously coupled to this 'it's just who we are mate' cliche that he, and the club, have become over the last season and a half. Refusing to change it and losing games hand over fist in the process has made him into a bit of a joke figure, very one dimensional and it's been sussed by a lot of the better teams in the league. Now and again the approach works and it looks amazing but it looks naïve (at best) more often than not (from what I've seen). I also think he's a bit too emotional and moody - to the point of being downright obnoxious in some interviews. Ultimately he's responsible for results and performances and they've been very poor for a sustained time now. Not even sure winning the EL saves him when his bread and butter is so manky

our next three games are the most important; ipswich and brighton are down on form and should be winnable, chelsea at home is a "six-pointer", if we do them then I think we qualify. Mancity or villa are going to drop points this week so we must take advantage...

Since that Liverpool vs Villa game the season we came 4th. Villa getting a point meant we only needed one at home to Leicester.
-
Opposite profile imo. 1 is physically top with great work rate. The other is great technically but physically short with some of the worst work-rate/passion you'll ever see

Tonight’s game is the most I’ve anticipated a game that doesn’t involve Newcastle for ages
-
Yeah, for what it's worth I think we would have lost against Villa anyway, it's more the rest of the season I'm concerned about.

Along with permanent managers: Michael Carrick Scott Parker Frank Lampard And previously Wayne Rooney
-
No one can say for sure - I think he'll be a bigger miss over the coming weeks when they've time for training.
-
Currently in the Championship the caretaker managers are: Aaron Ramsey Jack Wilshere James Morrison

Man Utd will never go away. No matter how many times they fail there’s always that legacy (and all that comes with it) that they can fall back on to bounce back. The footballing equivalent of having a super successful and wealthy grandfather; this current iteration of Man Utd is essentially a fuck-up trust fund kid at this point.
