Think his chance yesterday was tougher than it first appeared, it was a fast cross and deflected too close to him to get too much on it. If Lovenkrands had played the ball along the ground a second to two earlier I think it would have been a goal. Ironically, I think if Smith & Ranger's chances had been reversed (to Smith's head & Ranger's feet) we'd have had two more goals.

Questionable sanity. 42 years old. Alcoholic. Needs a new hip. And he's still better now than anyone else in our midfield. Not sure that's a statement on how good Gazza is or just how bad our midfield is.

They've been barely hanging on with Champion's League money. Take it away and they simply cannot finance themselves.
-
Not sure Hart could have done anything else considering what's been going on with them for the last 6 months or so, Portsmouth have been doing their best to make Mike Ashley look competent. They'd probably be in the same mess even with Mourinho in charge.

He's hired a very good coach in Derek Fazackerley & he's given Terry McDermott a job (can't say whether McDermott's a good coach or not, but he hung around enough decent coaches in his time here that something must have rubbed off). A Huddersfield fan I know thinks he's the best manager they've had in years, he's apparently brought some decent players in too, not necessarily great players but ones that fit well in the team.

Bit of a hypothetical question. What would NUST's reaction be if a company like Greggs said that they'd be willing to invest £20m to help purchase the club as long as they were given stadium naming rights for 5 years? Would NUST be willing to accept renaming St James Park to The Greggs Steak Bake Stadium if it meant gaining control of the club?

Do you not even have any constructive reasons as to why you think it is 'never going to happen'? What you've done there is an absolute piece of piss, to just say it's bollocks and not give any opinion as to why. Oh come on surely you must know it will never happen. We will never gather enough support or funds for anything meaningful to be achieved. Not with that attitude, no. I'm glad there are people willing to try rather than sit and moan like you do. A few years ago there was a survey that suggested that around 50% of UK voters would vote Lib Dem if they believed they stood a chance of getting elected. As it happens, any party winning 50% of the vote would win a general election in a massive landslide but it won't happen because people don't (or won't) believe that it could happen. I'm not certain whether or not a supporter's trust buyout can succeed, but I can guarantee that it won't succeed if people simply assume that the plan is doomed from the start. I can't personally afford £1500 to buy into the plan, but I'm willing to give what I can to help it succeed. Even if people don't believe right now that it can't work or that £1500 is too much to risk, it's surely worth putting a few ££ into a pot with others to achieve the £1500.

Yes. Don't have £1500 spare but I would be interested if there was the opportunity to put something in.

A few years ago when I sat in the Leazes end there was a guy in the row in front of me who spent most of the game sat reading the Telegraph, oblivious to what was happening on the pitch. Was the only time I saw him there so he must have only bought a ticket for that single game.

Smith - £60k per week Nolan - £40k per week Geremi - £60k per week Butt - £35k per week Barton - £65k per week Gutierrez - £40k per week Coloccini - £40k per week Works out at over £17.5m per year and I've probably been pretty conservative with Jonas' and Colo's wages. £20m barely covers the wages of 7 of our players, 3 of whom barely even play.

a million quid or so Aye, that'll go far. Real Madrid must be quaking in their boots at the prospect of us delving into the transfer market.

Player for player we probably have the best 1st team squad in the Championship, but I've yet to be convinced that we have the best team. We've done poorly against sides like Doncaster and Scunthorpe because whilst their players may not be as good (on paper) they've played far better than us as a unit. Our players often seem to play like they've never met each other, they have little leadership on the field and there doesn't seem to be much of a plan on how they should be playing together week in, week out. Hughton has been reminding me more & more of Roeder, where he's had no choices and the team has pretty much picked itself we've done OK but when he's had options he's invariably picked an unbalanced side that has looked clueless as how to string 2 passes together. We've been riding our luck in a number of games that should have gone against us and it has seemed to me that we've succeeded because of the individual qualities of our players and not because we've been the better team.
-
How the fuck do we keep getting away with shit like tonight? If I spot Hughton sacrificing a goat to Cthulhu under a full moon sometime soon it really won't surprise me.

The Greggs Steak Bake Stadium

On the naming of the stadium, could we have a whip round and offer Ashley a few £££ to call St James' The Fuck off Mike Ashley Stadium?
-
No. He said that he'd pump £20m into the club, never said that it would be solely for transfers. In the last couple of years the money that he's put in has been used to pay wages. If there's anything left over after the wage bill has taken a bite out of the £20m Hughton can probably use that for transfers, but fuck knows who he'll be able to buy for the 20p that's left.
-
Well promotion hardly matters any more, with Ashley dithering again and with Hughton in charge it won't matter if we get promoted as we'll go straight back down again without significant investment and competent management.
-
I have very little faith that Hughton has continued the one-to-one coaching that Shearer and Dowie started. Caulkin claimed in a lengthy article the other day that Shearer's idea of them all eating together (as they did under Sir Bobby) had already gone out of the window, as had the series of fines for being late to training and stuff. Plus the idea of the players not going out on the piss too close to games seems to have been abandoned too. Hughton seems to have got the players to like him by letting them do whatever they want to, both on and off the pitch, with no consequences for them should they ignore him. That's fine for short term morale boosting, but it is no way to run a football club.

 Plus this: I have very little faith that Hughton has continued the one-to-one coaching that Shearer and Dowie started.

Our midfield is incapable of retaining possession or creating chances, so we may as well reduce our reliance on their performance and throw everything we can at Doncaster. --------------------------Harper-------------------------- Simpson-----Khizanishvili-----Coloccini-----Enrique ----------Guthrie---------Nolan---------Jonas---------- ----Harewood-------------------------Lovenkrands---- ----------------------------Carroll-------------------------- Hughton lacks the balls to consider that though, so we'll probably end up with --------------------------Harper-------------------------- Simpson-----Khizanishvili-----Coloccini-----Enrique -----R.Taylor------Guthrie-------Butt------Jonas----- ---------------------------Nolan--------------------------- ---------------------------Carroll-------------------------- -
Utter bollocks. We've played some fantastic football at times, it's a bad patch that needs fixing, stop talking as if every goal we've scored has been pure luck. We've never played good football really, some good results but not good football. We haven't really come anywhere close to consistently good football since Keegan left
-
Fucking disgrace The players out there tonight have over 200 international caps between them and yet they can't beat fucking Scunthorpe. Can't deny that Ashley deserves a fuckton of blame, but those players and Hughton need to have a fucking word with themselves. If you're paid as a professional footballer but can't pass the ball then it's time to look for a new career.
-
Good, that'll teach him to turn up without a definite article.
-
Considering the last few games, especially the 1st half on Saturday. Either: The players are doing exactly what Hughton has asked them to, in which case he's fucking clueless or The players are taking no notice of what Hughton is telling them, in which case he's useless. He's completely out of his depth, even at this level, and we will go absolutely nowhere with him in charge.
-
Could we not just have Roeder back instead? For all he was a doormat for Fat Fred he at least had some understanding of tactics.
