Very good points and I agree in hindsight. Wharton is currently the better player but I like the intangibles element. Wharton would probably one day Isak us for Liverpool whereas I don't think Anderson ever would

Forest are no longer that kind of team who want another teams scraps. They are ambitious and probably looking to emulate or overtake us before too long. Neither of them would get in to their squad. Lascelles and Willock are more the Fulhams or Brentford level.

Owen was that world class sharp as a tack player we signed, up until that December injury which almost ruled him out of the world cup. We got half a season of value. That Keegan 10 role was the only time he figured out a different way to play and add value - even when he left and went to Man U, Stoke etc he never delivered except the odd moment - e.g. winner against Man City, CL goal etc

A shame, was a good fit for Forest. As a local he'd transformed the vibe around the city last season. Would be good to see Mourinho there, he is a big personality like Clough. Similar style of football too, and track record of success. Ange would be a disaster.

I see him and Wissa being the new Beardsley and Cole, 1993/94 season. Not expecting too much.

HBA's story reads like a Lauryn Hill or something - insanely talented with initial success but fell out with the higher ups so essentially black listed from the bigger platform and wider coverage their talent deserved

Agree wtih this, would rather Gordon went than Barnes. I see Barnes as more back up anyway. Feel like there's a ton of Gordon alternatives out there, very good attainable LW's and Gordon is good not great.

One thing I'm looking forward to is getting Ross Wilson - not as big a name as Ashworth and Mitchell but you can see a very good body of work at Forest where within 3-4 seasons they've not just become established in the PL but have actually got a solid side. Probably a better first XI / squad than Brighton/Bournemouth/Crystal Palace etc who have been in the league for much longer. All through high volume trading, it was chaotic but they got rid of the dregs and kept the good ones. Wouldn't mind a higher volume approach - feel like we are too specific and too meticulous and risk averse in the market. Minteh is an example of when can happen when we are creative. We either only buy prospects sub 20m or first teamers at 35m plus. Don't get me wrong, we've got an excellent record and that's because of being meticulous etc - just feels slow and unsustainable in a fast growing market. Others will catch up whilst we don't bridge the gap much faster. There's a sweet spot we're not operating in that others are doing better than us.

Dalglish destroyed Keegan's team. He should be at the same level as Souness who destoryed SBR's team. Both E. Dalglish took the Entertainers and turned them into a team who scored 36 goals across a season. Ridiculous. Expectations to performance / reality - given the teams they had, their reputation and expectations wise, they should be E. Roeder had a terrible team but that run of form where we got to 7th was major overperformance. Then he got ill. Below Hughton but not as bad as some of the others. Carver and Bruce at F makes sense. They are the worst by far - Bruce more damaging than Carver. McClaren also had 100m spend in the summer and a good team - especially in Jan when Shelvey and Townsend also came in. No way on Earth they should have been relegated. Pardew is probably a D- or E in hindsight, relative to how terrible some of the others are and that 5th season and also the fact we were paid good money for him. When he left we were top half and in a good points position - and the only reason why Carver didn't relegate us was because of that opening half of the season. Goes to show RW has never been an overly strong suit for us - Solano is miles above the others - although personally I would have put HBA in on the right as that's where he played. LW instead could be ASM or N'Zogbia I would also put Speed ahead of Clark or Jenas. Debuchy or Beye were fairly decent RB's so honourable mentions, as was Santon and Domi at LB. Goes to show how strong the striker pool for us has been in the PL. Quite a few who didn't make the cut but still did well, e.g Carroll, Remy, Asprilla, Martins

ASM was 25 years old I believe. But yes everything else makes sense, the market has shifted to young players only. It was once the case that the promoted clubs would go towards experienced players to help them survive - but look at Sunderlands, Leeds and Burnleys - apart from the odd experienced signing like Xhaka or Walker or Dubravka, most are young or peak years. Leeds oldest signing is DCL at 28.

That entire 11/12 season was wicked. Ba was great that first half, Cisse the second, HBA, Cabaye and Tiote in the centre, Coloccini was excellent too. Likeable team and all quite young. It all clicked. Pity it didn't last long.

He went that peak summer where Saudi were flexing and he was our most creative and box office player, plus young mid 20s. 40m wouldn’t even be considered dodgy let alone higher, judging what some others went for. I know Longstaff and Almiron had no buyers but that’s part of a sporting director role isn’t it to create demand. Which is why Mitchell did well with Kelly. How does some random at the cartel club have demand whilst both Almiron and Longstaff who have actually excelled at different times at Newcastle in the Premier League have no buyers? Even Isak should have been in much higher demand.

Goes to show how poor sellers we are in comparison. CL scoring and experienced PL midfielder in his peak years going for only 12-15m in Longstaff. Compare that to the nobody’s the Cartel sell for that amount every year. Isak was sold undervalue, ditto Almiron, and even ASM. Kelly is the only good deal we did and tbh a Chelsea would have probably sold him for 30m as he is comparable with Tosin who they value around that amount.

Ok so he is high ceiling. that seems to be the price point we buy at, the 60-75m. Ekitike Sesko Pedro Woltemade. Even Mbemo or Cunha id put here. Isak Haaland Mbappe etc are at the elite 100m+ level. That’s the level that is beyond us. Man City though bought KDB Aguero Toure early on and they stayed the distance. It helped they won the title within 3 years of the takeover. I thought Bruno Tonali Botman and Isak were our equivalents. And had PSR not existed I think we could have been at that level already, Isak and Bruno came early before these restrictions were so apparent so would have thought they were signing up for the new big boys early. the ambition we’ve not been able to match for Isak is definitely a consequence of PSR, he would have got his 300k a week pay rise and all that otherwise.
