I think with the Dortmund & Milan home games, they felt like a bit like the Man U cup final in that we faced teams with more Champions League experience and nous than us. (or "final" experience in the Man U case, same kind of thing though). That said, we didn't really look like scoring in the cup final whereas in the two CL home defeats we were a lot closer - hit the crossbar twice & Wilson missed a sitter he usual buries Vs Dortmund, the Miggy chance & Bruno shot saved onto the crossbar which puts us in the driving seat hugely Vs Milan. They were much finer margins and that's a good sign of progress - next time in the CL we go with that much more experience, plus whatever else we've brought in by then. Howe will definitely have learned from the experiences and I bet we see that next time around when we look back on this CL campaign.

Don't get the Trippier sub, subbing him when he was having a decent game with Saturday off to come and yet he left him on when he was gassed to fuck and making mistakes the last two weeks. Gordon going off just as he was coming to the boil felt odd too. Wonder if they were pre-planned subs rather than reactionary but they felt odd at the time and we unravelled soon after. He'll learn from this I'm sure, first European campaign. The overall feeling is that Dortmund away aside, we've played well and competed in all the games and yet finished bottom due to sides with a bit more savvy and nous and experience in Europe edging us, as well as the travesty of a pen at PSG. Same feeling as I had after the Man U final, no disgrace at all just a team full of big-game experience versus one at the start of its journey (Tripps aside). Could do with a humdrum, boring as shit 1-0 win against Fulham just to get the winning feeling back. Good to have a few more bodies and hopefully we can push on this season.

We didn't deserve that. Nowt fucking drops for us ever, was just like the Dortmund home game in that respect, so many near misses or chances where the ball almost fell for us. I need to see the winning goal again but my reaction in real time was that Bruno absolutely swerved the opportunity to make a foul, take the yellow and keep us alive. He played so well all night but that moment may have been the one that cost us. Absolutely gut wrenching stuff tonight. Feel like it'll probably be flat as a fart on Saturday after that, everyone's taken an emotional hammering.

I'd hope we are exploring options, at the very least. If Howe/the team genuinely thinks none of them are viable and / or good enough to displace Dubravka then fine, but it makes me feel a lot better that they're at least investigating what's out there.

Every single time I've ever lost a corners bet by one team, it's always a team who scores more than the number of corners they've got. A team will happily knock in 6 or 7 goals and somehow come up with 2 corners in the match to wreck my longlist of 3+ per team. Happens every time!!

I'm sympathetic about today, he's totally strung with what we have in the cupboard. It was shit to watch but they all just looked absolutely spent, and the step down from Pope to Dubravka is a yawning chasm. Unless he tells us otherwise afterwards we didn't get any more injuries, which is good, and we got Longstaff and Wilson back into the action. Hopefully the crowd can get them through Milan and as the days trundle on we get more options back. It's painful watching at the moment but there's not loads that I think could be done massively different, other than maybe using the admittedly crap bench options a bit sooner when the game is done and saving key legs. Some of them were crap today but we were on a hiding to nothing really.
