Someone from work (who is not interested in football) has just been on holiday to same resort as Eddie. Matt Ritchie and a few other footballers, e.g. Loftus Cheek and Seamus Coleman there at same time. As cool as I like to think I would be in such circumstances, sense of instant envy tells me that I’d probably blow it!

If we took Maguire we'd be strengthening Man U. Seems you have more faith in your own crystal ball than I do. He wouldn’t be top of my/many summer shopping lists, but he might be hugely motivated to show them/all what they’re missing. Anyway, the ‘right’ answer to the question was a stupid one. This 100% - we have be there - done that. What kind of management team would think it was sensible to have a hard and fast rule that they would never sign someone surplus to requirements at an English (or other) top six club?

Makes sense if we can get decent money for Lascelles. Doubt it will happen, but surely a player with such big game experience would be great cover/an option especially if getting them in didn’t dent available spends for other positions?

I agree and we’ll see are my immediate thoughts. In that sensible (as in required upgrades/back-ups) squad building with a bigger war chest than many expect is the way we’ll go. I don’t know what the eventual spend will be this summer, and to be honest I don’t understand the real parameters of FFP, I do think it’ll end up closer to twice the figure you quote though. Whatever the number ends up being it’s going to be really exciting.

Don’t know if Bowen has been linked, and now he is an all time WH legend it may decrease likelihood of a move, but I really think he could be immense for us and regardless of recent events, surely must be more within our reach than Rice

May be setting myself up for disappointment, but does anybody else think that regardless of the budgetary bollocks being broadcast () that this is the window where we go large? If you had to pick one pure purple signing who would it be? I’d go Osimhen (at third type of praying…).

Thanks for noticing. It was just the last two cells on the 95-96 column—as you say because I had left 42 as games played (the seasons were originally in date order). Corrected now:

Eddie, and leadership team, in their first full season have delivered best ever (Premier) performance in terms of: least number of losses (and lowest percentage losses), fewest goals against (and percentage goals against). Second highest number of draws (and percentage draws; joint 6th highest wins), second best goal difference, and joint second points per game. Not too shabby!

It’s no Angel of the North, like.

Not seen much analysis between our better seasons in the Premier League. So thought I’d do a comparison between our top six Premiership/League seasons. Best/highest three stats (not sure whether high draws are good) shown in gold, silver and bronze. Last season was ‘on the podium’ for 8 of the criteria—equal to 95-96, both topped only by 95-97. Interestingly, relatively speaking last year we scored more and conceded less than our best season (points total and football) to date.

I’ll be surprised (but not disappointed) if he doesn’t go this window. Really enjoyed having him in the team, but suspect his time is up.
