I trust this ‘hub and spoke’ model of management he loves is probably pretty effective when the right people are involved. However, when you couple all of this stuff with his very dodgy handling of the Mark Sampson case when he was at the FA he comes across as a bit of a boob. Tony Bloom’s big spreadsheet football wonderkids has a lot to answer for.

I don’t think Dubs ever shook off the rust. The second and third goals against Man United were appalling pieces of keeping, but there were examples of those littered throughout the seasons. As time went on we got a bit better at masking the more pronounced issues - like trying to play a high line with a goalkeeper who gets vertigo coming beyond his penalty spot - but Dubs is done.

No idea why people assumed we’d be getting something completely bespoke tbh. Seems a massive misunderstanding of what ‘elite club status’ means, which is that we’ll get drip fed a load of Originals-style branded merch for people to waste their hard earned cash on and the final kit itself will likely be of a marginally better quality than non-elite clubs. For what it’s worth I think the shirt looks fine. Prefer it if we didn’t have a back panel but that’s the only bit I really feel in any way strongly about. People always get wound up about minor detailing and it’s basically forgotten about once the kit is out, being worn and we’re winning games.

12 months ago we would’ve said the same about right back. The club is clearly willing to do deals for players they see as representing good long term value even if they don’t address an immediate need.

He’s got great command of his box and he’s one of the best ‘sweepers’ in the league. He is shite with his feet though, I will give you that.

The arrival experience at Newcastle is genuinely one of the better ones IMO. Hate walking for miles through a soulless terminal building. At least at NCL it’s a mercifully short jaunt towards the hell that is dealing with UK Border Force personnel.

Keeper is a priority position for us this summer. We went from having one of the best defences in the league to haemorrhaging goals after that Man United game. The drop off between Pope and Dubs is vast. We can’t go into another season if we’re serious about competing with such a poor number two.

Add to this that absolutely no one is able to articulate why it’s shit, beyond the fact it doesn’t match some kit they imagined. It’s got black and white stripes and our badge on it. As long as it ticks those boxes will, at worst, be ok.
