James Maddison (now playing for Tottenham Hotspur)

I’ve always thought Maddison was pretty good at defending from the front (no stats to back this up, just my perception from watching him play over the years). Leicester were never a super high intensity team, but it didn’t appear to me to be a glaring deficiency in his game. Certainly can’t remember him being particularly lazy. The problem with ‘pressing’ in the manner that we do or Liverpool did in previous years is that it’s predominantly a tactical issue. It lives and dies on how well it’s being done across an entire team. The issue at Leicester doesn’t appear to be individuals not pulling their weight, but a team that don’t appear to know what they’re doing. -
Another thing we’ve missed is his ability to find space and offer other players an easy ball to keep things moving. It’s most obvious at the moment with Bruno because he’s getting caught in possession, but earlier in the season he was absolutely pivotal to that little Trippier-Miggy overlap routine we had on the right that proved so fruitful. He was always available to play a little one touch pass to either of them so they could get on their bike.

It felt like all of Newcastle was there. I was constantly bumping into people from my local or people who sat near me at the match.

Leicester have been dreadful but Maddison patently hasn’t. In a team that’s second bottom of the league he’s got more goals and assists than anyone in our side apart from Wilson. Not sure what people are seeing that suggest he’s got a bad attitude, but they’d be nailed to the foot of the table without his contribution this season. He’d be an absolutely first rate signing. -
Must be mint to be firmly midtable and just be able to enjoy the football.

It’s been mentioned for a while in the context of Trippier’s delivery but I think our entire approach is wrong. We’re far too static. We just bung all our big lads near the edge of the six yard box, so even if we do get a head on a ball it’s really hard to generate any power.

They were all guarding Tindall.
-
Don’t feel too bad after that, even if the performance was patchy. That was an absolute cunt of a game that had banana skin written all over it. Means we need six points from the last three games - two of which are at home - which is achievable.
-
I’m against McTominay on a point of principle, but it’s evident we’re very light in the centre of the park and need bodies. We’ve alighted on a system that - when fit- we’ve got the players to make it work very well. Any injuries in that position and we’re a shadow of the team we can be.
-
Gutted by the score line but I’m not sure how much there is to grumble about. We were always dependent on Arsenal having a bit of an off day and I thought they were absolutely outstanding all over the pitch.

Assume it means the collar will be predominantly black rather than predominantly white?

Everton lose that in a season. Small time.

Not enough lower league fixtures on for it to clash with so it’s allowed apparently.

Club needs old heads around the training ground for a multitude of reasons. I’ve absolutely no problem with him staying if Howe wants him kept.

Of all the deathly boring stuff that gets repeatedly debated on here the cup final ticket allocation is the most tedious by quite some distance. Change the fucking record lads.

They’re decent owners until they’re not. Did we sleep through the first twelve months of Ashley when he was the greatest thing ever? There’s value in having an entity that can be in the room and involved in discussions on behalf of the fans, as well as representing supporters in other forums too like the media. I appreciate that in and of itself is a problem for a lot of our support, because we fight like rats in a sack over the most trivial bullshit. I don’t care for the people currently involved in the Trust, but I believe in it as a concept which is why I’m a member. There’s a democratic process by which we can influence who is involved, which is a damn sight better than having Steve Wraith rocking up on SSN and speaking for us. I’d gladly vote for anyone on here who wants to get involved. That’s basically as cast iron guarantee you’d be on the board given the turnout at the last election.

It’s just a lose-lose as far as I can tell. There’s no real market for it, so it would be a failure on those terms however it would risk cannibalising some of the Dubai traffic. I don’t get the impression NCL would spend nearly two decades cultivating a relationship with Emirates to the point we have a really successful long haul service to a major hub from what is our pretty piddly l regional airport and risk pissing the airline off for this.
-
I just can’t see direct flights to Saudi. The Dubai route is so valuable to the airport and the wider region. They’ve been trying to convince Emirates to go twice daily for a decade now, which would immediately go in the bin if they were to start a service to SA.

He’s the most obvious candidate when it comes to making some money to lessen any issues around FFP. I don’t think it’s a certainty he’ll go though. Depth of the squad is going to be an increasingly important issue and if we’re getting rid of him we’ll need another body.

The touchline antics are one thing, but outright accusing a referee by name of having a grudge against you is pretty outrageous. Needs the book chucking at him.
-
I’ve just remembered that absolute abortion of a 0-0 we played out with them that season. Hand on heart the worst game of football I’ve ever witnessed.

That’s filthy. Should be off.
