I think this is only true to a certain extent. Players want to win trophies, and the narrative around Newcastle will be “go there and you’ll never win anything”. That has to change if you want to attract and retain the best players The example to avoid is Spurs, who everyone would agree are the bottom of the big six pack, despite being financially competitive and having years in the CL, as the others actually win things.

Schar has played 41, 47 and 30 (so far) games last 3 seasons. If Wilson had that sort of availability giving him a new contract would also be a done deal.

Schar-Burn isn’t working very well at the moment, but it’s a combination that’s supposed to play 10 games a season, not 50. They are both going to the wall for the club this season as they are the only consistently fit CBs. Schar is a good player and it would be brainless to let him go in the summer, even with new signings

Th income numbers and staffing show the club is now ran as a serious enterprise. A long way to go, but clearly moving in the right direction

I don’t think it’s an average team at all, that’s why it’s so frustrating. But there is a big difference in quality within the team now and there is some insane decision making going on with some of the weaker players. Schar-Burn for me doesn’t work anymore. We all know RCB is a priority position and Botman is injured but it is costing the team. I don’t blame the players or the manager and the club do want to fix it, but that’s the reality. Got away with Murphy in the first half of the season but his form had dried up a bit and he makes some terrible choices in his own half.
