Guest Roger Kint
Probably already mentioned but Adam Bartlett has found out via twitter he wont be coaching here next season. Good to see we learnt from the Jonas backlash.....
Guest
Malcolm Crosby was saying one of the reasons he was released from the Heed was to pursue a career in coaching too...
Hanshithispantz
I'm confused, it seems to be Gateshead who've released him, not NUFC? His twitter still says he's a coach here but it's been edited to say "looking for a new club"? http://www.gateshead-fc.com/5433/gateshead-confirm-retained-and-released-list

KaKa
Talk of McClaren wanting an assistant who has a record of winning things. Like the sound of that.

Good to see we learnt from the Jonas backlash..... He's been released by Gateshead as a player hasn't he? Isn't that what he's referring to?

Dont know, assumed he meant from the coaching he did here too considering Gateshead released list was a few days ago wasnt it?
Dr Venkman
Just been chatting to a mate at work, season ticket holder at Boro when McClaren was there. He cited his main strength as game management, which gives me a bit of positivity after 5 years of the worst game management possible.

henke
At the risk of sounding even thicker than I normally do, what makes a good game manager?

mozy
I'd say it was knowing when to make the right subs, change tactics in order to exploit a particular weakness in an opponent, know when to attack / defend, press / drop off etc etc. Basically Jose Mourinho is the best at it. Ikon
Making good decisions during a game i guess...
DJ_NUFC
I'm thinking he means in-game management, where he reacts to situations he finds the team in and makes appropriate changes. Totally opposite of Pardiola and Charva.
Dr Venkman
Man management? Not his strength, apparently.
Dr Venkman
At the risk of sounding even thicker than I normally do, what makes a good game manager? Making tactical changes/subs during the game or at half time, basically.
The College Dropout
I don't think Mourinho is great at it but he is very decisive. If it's going wrong in 30 mins. he'll make a change.

Yea, so often managers dither on changes or do them at sort of pre-alloted times in the game, i can understand not wanting to make a substitution to hurt a players confidence before half time though, and I guess managers want to make their system work and not adapt to the other teams game. However I do remember Mourinho's Madrid subbing on Modric as soon as Man U went down to 10 men to spread the ball and make most of extra possession and almost immediately Modric scored. I hate it when managers take ages to make calls like that
Ronaldo
Bobby was a very good in-game manager. Made a lot of substitutions that changed games.
joeyt
Bobby was a very good in-game manager. Made a lot of substitutions that changed games. I think we were playing Watford at home and he brought on LuaLua, Stepehn Glass and Wayne Quinn (maybe). Our equalising goal ended up being crossed in by Quinn, LuaLua miskicked it and then Stephen Glass scored. Don't think I've ever seen that before or since
Troll
What's wrong with waiting for the 75th minute, swapping right backs, and bringing on Shola?

Cordone crossed it, Lua Lua sliced it and Glass finished. You're right though, 2 or 3 of them had just been subbed on.
Spider Jerusalem
I don't think Mourinho is great at it but he is very decisive. If it's going wrong in 30 mins. he'll make a change. Didn't he use all three subs against us around half time, getting the inevitable injury after that in the FA Cup one year. Still, chalk one up on the lessons learned board. Ronaldo
Yep, 1-0 under Souness in early '05. Shearer knackered Wayne Bridge.
