Steve McClaren

Don't know of anyone who wanted him as manager but once he was confirmed everyone got behind him, mainly because he wasn't Pardew or Carver in all honesty, but really he's just turned out to be what people thought he would be, slightly worse if anything. People want him gone and there's a strong case for that but we'd just get another deadbeat yes man in who isn't qualified to do the job but is so grateful to get it he'll do it on the cheap and won't dare question the ridiculous policies in place at the club.

For me they might as well keep him till the end of the season. We'll more than likely go down, probably will if they sacked him anyway but even if we do what's the big deal? I don't know of anyone who enjoys watching NUFC play in the PL anymore so if we do drop out the league, firstly it'll be well deserved, secondly we'll win a few more games and thirdly it'll cost the fat man a fortune as opposed to the fortune he'll pocket if we were to stop up.

Problem is it'll cost him nothing unless the club implodes and we get relegated again or something. He'll just pile everything onto the existing debt like last time.

Sunday People Sport revealed a fortnight ago that Magpies owner Mike Ashley had sent McClaren, 54, a “stay strong” message in view of Newcastle’s dismal start to the season.

And Ashley shows no signs of wavering in his support.

A source close to the Sports Direct billionaire said: “Steve McClaren is as safe as houses. He is under absolutely no pressure at all from the owner. He has Mike’s full backing.

“Indeed you could say that Mike Ashley is not only behind his head coach but standing firmly alongside him. And not only does Mike want McClaren to get it right, he believes he will.’’

Well that's reassuring to hear at least.

If a real football megamind like Ashley thinks that McClaren knows what he's doing then it's a real weight of my mind.

Judging by the comments on the previous few pages, I take it the general feel from everybody is that he is useless? Barely read anything recently and only seen a few matches this season so I haven't really got a feel for people's opinions on McClaren.

The bloke started Gouffran in centre midfield. That's all you need to know about him really.

If Moyes goes to Villa I'll feel we've missed an opportunity. He's a bit dour but he seems to be able to motivate average sides, he was awful at Man U but he had an average Everton team, with little money, consistently getting results.

I don't think he's suited to managing abroad.

If (and it's a big if) we get rid of Schteve, he'll bring Harry Redknapp in on a short term contract in a last ditch attempt to galvanise our feckless squad.

That's a good shout. Redknapp has been sounding off about us even more than usual recently.

Turned out to be a good result today and some good individual performances but we are an absolute mess, honestly can't remember a worse CM situation at the club, there's just nothing there.

Half decent teams will wipe the floor with that fucking mess in the middle and at the back.

More like that please. If we can't defend, let them attack.

Deserves lots of credit today, would have been easy to try and keep things very tight considering the position we are in and the pressure on him. Pardew certainly would have.

Don't like him and I think he's shit, but he now has one thing over Pardew in that we actually attempt to attack, which shouldn't need saying but does.

Was it me or was Sissoko positioned slightly differently today? Looked like he was taking up a role between CM and the wing but actually neither and he exploited the area very well with Wijnaldum doing the same on the other side.

Wonder if it was intentional by McClaren to bring him narrower to influence the play a bit more?

He definitely looked narrower than usual, but I'm not sure if it was an intentional thing or not. It might just have been because our midfield is non-existent.

Sounds a bit like a right sided shuttler.

Nice to see the inter-play and link-up's between the front 5 or 6. Also nice to see the players still wanting to score that 7th goal even though we'd already notched 6 they still wanted to flood forward and attack.

Still look far too brittle at the back and Colcack*/Tiote give no protection to the CBs.

* this was a genuine typo but I'm leaving it in.
