Aye, just gotta hope Ashley is panicked enough to pull the trigger... or at leats tell his puppet to do it.

His cash cow is in danger of missing out on its biggest pay-day, and even he must see that McClaren cant turn things around.

Especially after letting the club spend almost £80m of the funds it'd stored up!!

I really hoped he would have just resigned, admitted he'd failed and left with a shred of respect.

It's time for Charnley to show some balls.

charnley didn't look like he gave the remotest fuck when the camera panned to him in crowd like, maybe it's their plan - get relegated, get rid of all the high earners during parachute payment year, bounce right back to the PL with an extremely effective cost-cutting exercise undertaken and still on the gravy train

Doesn't really work though, we'd get rinsed on the transfer fees we've paid for these players.

Well we never expected him to walk before the game did we? The general thinking was he was going to get sacked if he lost. That's what we were supposed to be waiting for right?

To be honest I thought he would.  Didn't think he would handle the pressure plus thought there was a decent man under the brolly.  Guess I was wrong.

It's clear to see that no one thinks sticking with McClaren is any good right now. Complete change of opinions after the shambles today from that statement until the final kick off the ball. Really don't know how McClaren has any confidence to keep us up anymore. Probably even he knows it's impossible and only in for the money now.

David Moyes in the frame to take over at Newcastle United as Steve McClaren nears the exit door

By Luke Edwards6:00PM GMT 05 Mar 2016

David Moyes is poised to answer Newcastle United’s save our season call as Steve McClaren prepares himself for the sack following the Magpies’ 3-1 home defeat to Bournemouth.

Telegraph Sport understands that the Newcastle hierarchy are aware of Moyes’ interest in the Newcastle job and believe he is the best man to try and save them from relegation with ten games remaining.

Steve McClaren appears to be on the brink of losing his job

Moyes has been out of work since he was sacked by Real Socieded in November, but Ashley has tried to appoint the Scot before and was hugely impressed with the job he did at Everton.

Tellingly, although Celtic have been keen to get Moyes to commit to taking over as their manager from Ronny Delia for the start of next season, he has refused to give any promises because he would prefer to return to the English Premier League.

Should McClaren, as is expected, be removed in the next few days, talks with Moyes are expected to start immediately. There are potential stumbling blocks to remove in negotiations, but the job does appeal to the former Manchester United manager.

Lee Charnley has repeatedly defended McClaren

Although Newcastle managing director Lee Charnley has steadfastly defended McClaren and did not want to sack him, even if they lost to Bournemouth, owner Mike Ashley is set to intervene and will urge him to dismiss the head coach this weekend.

Ashley has been reluctant to get involved in the decision making at St James’ Park after supporters turned on him last season, but he realises it is time for firm leadership in a relegation crisis and talks about McClaren’s future were set to take place on Saturday evening.

It now seems inevitable that McClaren will be sacked in the next 48 hours after a terrible eight months on Tyneside. Although he was not in charge of recruitment, he should have got more out of players at his disposal and Ashley’s minimum requirement this season was to avoid another relegation battle.

Newcastle have spent around £80m on new players since the end of last season, but have failed to improve on the pitch. They are currently second from bottom in the Premier League, three places lower than where they finished the previous campaign.

Although Newcastle – and Charnley in particular - were determined not to be pressurised into sacking McClaren, it is the nature of the defeat to Bournemouth which appears to have hammered the final nail into his coffin.

Newcastle were dreadful and the players, who released a strongly worded statement before the game criticising a journalist who had clashed with McClaren at his pre-match press conference because of a report claiming they expected him to be sacked, did not back those words up with a performance on the pitch.

Ashley is loyal to those he employs and Charnley, who was responsible for appointing McClaren last summer, even though he had just been sacked by Derby County after failing to get them promoted from the Championship, has tried to protect the 54-year-old.

But it seems that protection will run out following talks with Ashley and his right hand man, PR guru Keith Bishop, who has become an increasingly influential figure at St James’ Park in the last few months.

Charnley job is not thought to be under threat at this stage, although he will have to explain to Ashley at the end of the season why the team has struggled so badly, despite unprecedented spending on new players.

Only Manchester City have spent more in the transfer market this season, yet only Aston Villa have performed worse than Newcastle.

Moyes knows of the difficulties involved in taking the Newcastle job

Moyes knows he would be taking a risk accepting the Newcastle job given the troubles they have under Ashley. Presuming talks take place next week, he will want reassurances about player recruitment.

McClaren has been given more of a say about who is signed than his predecessor Alan Pardew, but Moyes is likely to want the final saying on recruitment.

That may be a stumbling block, but he is interested in taking charge of a club with the financial muscle to be challenging for European football every year, not fighting to stay out of the Championship.

Not sure Moyes would keep us up tbh. The Moyes coming straight from Everton probably would, but he's been damaged by his last two jobs and his confidence has taken a big knock.  Still I'd take that over the ginger tosser we currently have.
