Geordie_once_removed
I had an epiphany last week and realised why he has to go. The biggest issue with our team is that too many players don't want to be here. They've been sold the club as essentially a glorified shop window and so they show no fight and desire in games and generally have a very apathetic attitude to the club. McClaren will never be able to motivate these players as they know that he doesn't want to be here either, don't forget he knocked us back twice and only came when he didn't have a job and we were the only club after him. thomas
its so bad now its just funny. I fucked up by using laughter as a defense mechanism in the first place. I've run out of frivolity and dumb posts to make in matchday threads. I'm just angry and sad now.

ScottishMagpie
he needs to go but its a real shame. its obvious he's been waiting for this chance for years and gets the north east fans. but its just too big for him and as always we have the shitest recruitment policy there is which managers better than him would struggle with. give up on management, mate, and go back to coaching. this. The College Dropout
I'm sorry but if people think McClaren's best hope of turning this around is to drop its best players and lead under 21's to the slaughter against a rejuvenated Liverpool side he may as wll give up there and then. How about he comes up with a gameplan that gives our brittle defence at least some protection and our forward(s) something to work with? And how about he and his team instill some discipline and belief in these players? They may not be world beaters, but they're a damn sight better than they're showing at the moment. In fact, pretty much every single one has done so before they joined us and even in their time with us? Is there one player you can say has showed something like their best form since the start of the year? McClaren is not to blame for our problems, but he certainly isn't the solution either. f***ing exactly. Taking abuse from TCD in spades yesterday for saying this exact thing in a different way. He's a football manager/coach and he should be able to affect some kind a change to our predicament with alterations in tactics and personnel but he just picks more or less the same team every week. Apparently him not doing any of those things that even fat f***ing Sam has started doing is all down to Ashley and Charnley. It's mental, it's the same excuses Pardew used to trot out for himself but people are actually doing it for McClaren You can only coach players who want to be coached. These players couldn't care less, hence the reason we go on these ridiculous losing streaks, get hammered on a regular basis, have been in a relegation fight the last 3 seasons and have allowed an awful Sunderland team to beat us 6 times in a row. A lot of these players are fighting for their places in the Euros, if they got dropped when they don't perform they might think twice about going through the motions. But if the manager is going to keep on picking them regardless of their lack of effort then it's not surprising they are going through the motions. I count 4 players fighting to go to the euros. 2 of which are Dummett & Elliot.
Big Geordie
Just read the articles from tonight. It all smacks of club PR, if I'm honest. Refusing to panic whilst all around them, Rome burns.
Mattoon
I do think we have to apportion some of the blame to the players and the arse about recruitment policy. But there is an air of irony that a lot of the blame is going on the players rather than the manager when we were so up in arms on here about Pardew peddling the same excuses. I do think a better manager would get something out of these lot, but that would show ambition and is probably all we need to do to get out of this malaise. Ambition is a dirty word at St James' though. These players just need purpose, direction and belief. Even some of the shittest players in the league can look like world beaters with a little confidence and some of the best in the world can look like dogshit when moral is through the floor. Mr. Snrub
Can't argue with that reaction tbh. "Right lads, we won 6-2 the other week. Enough of that bollocks, let's not start pretending we aren't absolutely shite. Back to basics."
Lush Vlad
Where's that Iraqi general or PR guy saying all is okay? That's our club. Again and again. perfect analogy. As for McClaren. This cunt been sacked yet? Absolutely no point waiting any longer. We'll be cut adrift by the Villa game, then probably lose to them and all. Not saying a new manager is going to get us a win against Liverpool or Spurs. But may as well bring someone in now. With one eye on January and time for them to decide on who they want to keep. Who am I kidding?! We'll sit on our hands whilst the whole club burns to the ground. Whilst proclaiming that everything is fine and we had a good, angry week at training. Fuck off. http://i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/000/962/640/658.png

Stal
Just seen a story in the chronicle saying he refuses to look at signings in January when we are in a relegation fight. Surely that's the time we really need good players to come in? It's so transparent, he's just trying to lower/manage fan's expectations and further kill the club. I didn't want him, but with the backroom staff he brought in I started to have hope. He didn't clear the dead wood and not enough quality signings were made over the summer though and I started to think it would be a struggle. Carr also needs his share of blame for insisting on bringing him in when the club could have made a decision to make a big change with someone else (Garde, DeBoer etc) as does the inept lee ryder for cheerleading him (not on the carver ring licking scale, but still -apologies for Darth for the pre-lunch imagery), rather than championing someone who could have been a breath of fresh air. Anyway, point being he's just another pardew, just a less odious one.
Guest thenorthumbrian
There is something fundamentally wrong at Newcastle United which goes beyond who is currently in charge of the team. The transfer policy of only buying players under 24/25 mainly from abroad simply hasn't worked, as results have shown. There is nothing wrong with signing promising young players whether they are British or foreign but it can't be the whole plan. And the players we buy aren't there to build a squad but to hopefully make a profit once they are sold on, this isn't a recipe for stability. We need a manager, not a head coach, who has full say on transfers. If a manager wants to buy a player who is 30 years old because he feels he can help the team he should not be constrained from doing that. Remember when we signed Peter Beardsley the second time in his 30's ? He made Andy Cole's career. This transfer committee will never work , you can't push a player on a head coach and say, "OK make it work" if he doesn't have full faith in that player. The problem is with Ashley, he makes the ultimate decisions so he has to take full responsibility for the utter mess the club is in. In Ashley's time as owner we have had one lucky season and two relegation fights as well as one actual relegation with another looking like it's on the way. By any standards that is abysmal. steve_69
The fact that the manager doesn't get the players he needs when he needs them is suicidal. This 'players weren't available at the right value so we'll try again next window' line we keep trotting out is mental. Had we signed the dominant CB we've been in need of for 5 seasons, in the summer we'd almost certainly have more points on the board and not look like relegation certs. I'm all for not overpaying for players but sometimes you need to pay full market value and maybe a little over to ensure you go into a season as close to fully prepared as possible. We knew Williamson was shit, Lascelles was young and inexperienced at this level, Taylor is a crock and Colo is finished. We've known this stuff for ages but we chose to ignore it and it will come back to bite 'the transfer comity'. That said, we are in a false position. Player for player we are better than 6-7 teams in the league but sadly they (apart from Villa) have what we don't - work ethic, team spirit, direction and determination ie. stuff the manager and coaching team is responsible for. By January we'll be cut adrift and no amount of work in the transfer market will save us.
