Rich
Should add that it was a hopeful line-up more than anything (in regards to Beye, Enrique and Owen being involved.) I fear the actual starting XI will look even worse.
Skirge
Beye could play, nothing certain yet, he was playing with a knee knock and his hamstring was tight not gone so here's hoping.

Fit again Shola Ameobi and youngster Nile Ranger will compete for a spot on the bench. As well as missing the suspended Bassong, Joey Barton continues to serve his own suspension for his red card against Liverpool.

Dave
Get Ranger on the bench ffs. Something different, that we at least don't KNOW is shit (looking at you, Shola). We're in the position where we'll probably have to go for broke at some point.

Ashley17
Shola was on the bench on Saturday anyway. Subs Not Used: Krul, Coloccini, Smith, Ameobi. So if you take Bassong and probably Beye out of the team, and Carroll out of the 18, you're left with possible replacements: Owen (if fit) Enrique (if fit) Edgar (saw him with MC Harvey on my way into SJP on Sat) Ranger Geremi Realistic options anyway. LoveItIfWeBeatU
http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2009/05/20/dowie-tells-nufc-stars-to-ignore-bassong-loss-72703-23670042/ Dowie tells NUFC stars to ignore Bassong loss May 20 2009 by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle IAIN DOWIE has urged his Toon troops to get over the disappointment of Sebastien Bassong’s absence for the crunch game against Aston Villa. The Frenchman will be in the sin bin for the trip to Villa Park after a bid to have his red card against Fulham rescinded was rejected by the Football Association yesterday. A statement from the FA read: “A claim for wrongful dismissal by Newcastle United defender Sebastien Bassong was rejected. “Bassong was sent off for denial of an obvious goalscoring opportunity. “His two-match suspension, due to it being his second dismissal of the season, begins with immediate effect.” That blow means David Edgar and Fabricio Coloccini must fight it out for a place in central defence. With Habib Beye a major doubt going into the encounter with Villa, Dowie said today: “Sebastien’s disappointed. We believed (Diomansy) Kamara was going away from goal, and not in an obvious goalscoring position, so we appealed. “He was about 40 or 50 metres from goal, but we just have to get on with it. “Habib has been outstanding for us, and it will be a big blow if he doesn’t make it. It will very much go down to the wire, and it will be a 50-50 decision. “His attitude is spot on, and he’s doing everything he can to play. If it’s humanly possible, he’ll be there. “But we’re not going to damage the lad. If he’s fit, then great, but we must protect his long-term future.” But ex-Northern Ireland ace Dowie was more hopeful on the fitness of groin victim Michael Owen. He added: “The results of Michael’s scan are very positive, but we’ll have to wait and see. It’ll certainly go to the wire. “Andy Carroll’s got an ankle ligament injury, and definitely won’t be fit. He did it in training – it’s very unfortunate. “Habib’s very, very doubtful, and Jose Enrique’s 50-50 at best. “But we’ve got Shola Ameobi, and young Nile Ranger comes into the frame.” Meanwhile, Dowie feels the significance of Steven Taylor may be a massive factor. He says “He’s been out for a while, but has come back and put in two very good displays. He understands what the Geordie faithful expect. “There could be a lot of responsibility on his shoulders, but he will relish that. “It’s very important we play with composure and discipline, and we also want desire and hunger.”

SUPERTOON
We need to remember that a draw may still be enough, so we cant go all out attack( not that we really could) and we must not let our heads drop if we go one down.

Guest alankhaw
I think we need to play the opening 10 mins just by passing the ball around and keeping the ball just to settle the nerves before really attacking. It'll build up the confidence for the players and the fans even though we may get booed like crazy for doing it.
