And this is all down to Ashley getting his mates in to run a football club instead of hiring experienced people.  Most of the problems with wages come from players bought after he took over the club or given new contracts since so he can't blame Shepherd for that one.

Its funny, we are now at the stage where it doesnt matter what the papers make up, its all potentially true, nothing would be a suprise anymore.

thats nufc...its part of the reason why we are different.

Players at most yo-yo clubs accept clauses stipulating wage cuts of up to 30 per cent in the event of relegation but Newcastle have agreed deals in the last year or so entitling players to annual rises, no matter what.

We're a yoyo club now then eh? :idiot2:

I don't believe a thing that this bunch of cunts print BTW unless I know it too be true from elsewhere.

The biggest offenders are:

Owen, Viduka, Martins, Duff, Barton, Geremi, Smith, Butt

All but one was signed under Shepherd.  We were at around £70m a year in wages before Shepherd left and he's the one responsible for getting us there, nobody else.  Ashley's an arsehole who should get the blame for some absolutely moronic decisions but he can't get the blame for our idiotic wage structure.

Weren't these all Ashley buys?

And Ashley had 2 years to sort out the wage structure or have you forgotten?

Barton could of been fired.  Smith could of been sold last summer.  Owen could of been sold anytime.  Viduka, Geremi, Butt not so much but could be a surprising taker.

Every team has their deadwood too as well tbh recently read that Everton has just got rid of van der Meyde, completely forgot about him sure he was on a fairly good wage.

Viduka and Barton were definitely just before Ashley came in, possibly Geremi too.

NUFC optimistic of takeover deal by end of month

Jun 19 2009 by Luke Edwards, The Journal

ALAN Shearer remains in limbo and nobody has made a firm bid to buy the club, but optimism remains high that Newcastle United will have new owners by the end of the month.

Shearer had hoped to hear news of a major breakthrough yesterday but the former United skipper endured another frustrating delay in his appointment as manager and continues to wait at home for updates.

He has not spoken to either owner Mike Ashley or managing director Derek Llambias for several days and is not anticipating a breakthrough until next week at the earliest. The relationship between Newcastle’s manager-in-waiting and its absent owner is now a frosty one.

Although Llambias had suggested earlier this week that takeover talks could have reached a stage where the new owners would be able to name Shearer as manager before the weekend, that now seems extremely unlikely as the interested parties are still looking at the books in order to put a plan in place to stabilise the club following relegation to the Championship.

Ashley and Llambias are expected to be at Royal Ascot over the next two days, which would also appear to rule out the prospect of any significant change in the situation over the next 48 hours.

However, according to Seymour Pierce, the bank in charge of the sale process, significant progress has been made this week with four groups already well into the due diligence phase following the opening of an internet data room on Wednesday.

A source close to the deal said: “We remain very optimistic that a takeover will be agreed by the end of this month. Two of the bidders have already shown they are very serious about doing a deal and possibly three of them will make an offer to Mike Ashley.”

None of those four groups will reveal their plans for the future, or even their identity, before a successful bid has been made, as all have signed a strict non-disclosure agreement which forbids them from discussing their takeover attempt.

However, although he is serious in his effort to retake control at St James’s Park, The Journal understands the consortium involving former chairman Freddy Shepherd has not managed to provide evidence it has the funds to go through with a deal, while the Singapore-based Profitable Group is also behind the four consortia who have access to the data room for a similar reason.

That's nice of them. It's only a football club.

Yeah, when he'd been at the club all of 5 minutes so he only had existing contracts to use as a guideline. Unlikely he made ridiculous errors in this area, despite people's willingness to condemn him for all the problems in the world.

Utter fucking wankers, can we put a N/O minibus on and hunt them down??!?!?!?!

so that means the profitable group isn't one of the four ?

seems like those having a go cos they are at the races are those who look for the slightest non-sensical reasons to have a go. due diligence is being carried out, they may well have been told it will not be completed in the next  couple of days and i'd imagine if they got an offer they could be informed. the vast majority will be in the hands of seymour pierce.

This.

The press must think Ashley and Co have never heard of mobile phones and Blackberries. Quick Call, Consortium A wants to pay £100m is that ok? Of Course, get the paperwork over and I'll sign.

I thought it was in the hands of Ashley Harris anyway?

It is. Dodgy Derek will have virtually nothing to do with it other than be used as a media tool to wind up fans and Ashley wont be involved til it comes to formally accepting a bid and contracts are signed. Surely this was always going to take at least a week? Even without due dilligence it took Ashley something like 5 days to complete!

Simple fact is nobody knows anything in the media, all 4 have signed non disclosures so they do guesswork and hope to get a reaction.

We're left hoping for a miracle. Ashley will hand over the club to whoever stumps up the cash first regardless if they're asset strippers, child molesters, mackems, whatever. And once again we're powerless and just have to hope for the best. But I don't really see much anger, just resignation.

So no Freddy and no Profitable Group.. glad they've filtered the crap.

If the article is true they've only filtered the people who haven't proven they can afford the initial funds, doesn't mean the remaining ones will be better owners.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't feeling relieved at the thought of them being ruled out though.

Interesting suggestion on TT by Happy Face btw - that the £10m bonus story is perhaps a leak from access to this data room. I wonder what other nasty little surprises are hidden away in there?

So, we have four interested parties, who all have the funds and all want Shearer as Manager so why has he not be confirmed?

What if the club cannot be sold though? Ashley won't commit to anything.

We don't know for certain that they all do want Shearer anyway, the media don't even know who the parties are so they're just speculating.
