Woke up to a FB newsfeed full of mackem status' from last night. All had the same theme unsurprisingly, summed up by this one:

'Great result tonight, boing boing baggies :)

:idiot2:

 Typical.

There's a thread on RTG about 'finishing above the mags'. One of them actually speaks sense when he says that most Sunderland fans on there wouldn't care if they finished 19th as long as we finished 20th. Never has a truer word been spoken.

A mackem took their dog to the game, and jumped up and down with it in their arms when Bendtner scored. Rewind Sky+ if you don't believe me.

Most female mackems are dogs tbf

Them even discussing "finishing above the mags" is a reflection of their under achievement so far. According to them, before a ball was kicked this season, finishing above us was a given, a formality, never in question.

EXCLUSIVE: Sunderland to bid £8m for Zamora

Published 22:30 22/12/11 By Alan Nixon

Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill is ready to offer £8million for Fulham’s unsettled striker Bobby Zamora - but faces a fight to make him move from London.

O’Neill wants a new target man and thinks the England cap would be perfect for the style he wants to play to turn round the fortunes of the Black Cats.

Zamora can leave Fulham where he has had a stormy relationship with Martin Jol, but the far-travelled forward is settled in the capital.

O’Neill could push the boat out and offer top terms, but the word from Zamora’s camp is that the next move is not just about money.

New boss O’Neill can only wait so long for Zamora as his second choice - Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic - is being pursued by rivals, headed by QPR.

Sunderland are also chasing Senegalese striker Papiss Cisse but German side Freiburg want a big fee although that may come down during the window - and as they face a possible relegation.

Called it

Got a feeling we may sign Zamora

Proper London boy imo, couldn't see him moving elsewhere.  Was linked with Spurs last week in the Standard.

I think MON will try and get him for the mackems in Jan. He can be his new Heskey.

We all know his top target will be Emile 'goal machine' Heskey

I can't describe just how much I want this to happen. It would be a perfect post-christmas present.

Please please please.

Although, nb, he's not a "defensive striker" anymore, he's a midfielder these days

8m for Zamora

thats insane, how the hell can such an average striker be worth that much

This is what I have been moaning about with regard to MON for ages.

He can't be arsed to have scouts and shit, or to look at foreign players, he'll go for the massively overpriced UK based player every single fucking time.

And that kind of thing is precisely how he ended up leaving us with a squad choca full of overpriced, too old, massively over paid English / played in UK for a while players that nobody wants to take off our hands.

He did a similar thing at Celtic (Bobo Balde on 40k a week. In Scotland) and he'll do the same at Sunderland.

Lerner did exactly the right thing telling him to sort the wage bill a bit and move some players on before he'd let him spunk 15m on Aiden McGeady.

Manchester United fans top Premier League of shame for match-day arrests

Manchester United have finished top of a 'league of shame' for match-day arrests.

The champions had more fans held by police than any other team in the Premier League during last season – almost twice as many as second-placed Sunderland.

The figures, released by the Home Office show that the number of United supporters arrested rocketed from 165 in the 2009-10 season to 276 last year.

Some 117 fans were held at home games and 159 at away matches.

The vast majority of the arrests were for alcohol offences (127), followed by violent disorder (63), ticket touting (26), pitch invasions (20), public disorder (15) and possessing offensive weapons (11).

City joined United in the top four of the list - with 108 arrests last season.

Bolton had 52 fans arrested and Wigan 27.

Outside the top flight, Rochdale had seven arrests, Stockport five and Bury just one.

United said the figures should be seen in context of the fact Old Trafford had a bigger capacity than any other ground.

A club spokesman said: "These figures should be presented as a percentage of the stadium’s crowd, rather than as individual figures."

Mark Longden, from the independent Manchester United supporters association blamed the high number of arrests on 'over-zealous' policing at football grounds.

He said: "We're one of the very few teams that sells out their ticket allocation wherever we go.

"We all have our bad eggs but I think most sections of supporters are the same. The main issue is over-zealous policing.

"The way supporters are policed in general is conducive to getting arrested. The police release these figures every year which are designed to show football supporters to be hooligans carrying bricks and knives.

"It's in their interests to talk up the aggro."

Manchester City declined to comment.

The figures also showed that 23 fans were arrested in the Premier League for racist or indecent chanting – including two United fans.

Total number of arrests - home and away

Literally weeks ahead of you.

They need a left back so £15m on Gary Cahill and some goals so £5m on Emile Heskey.

Europe here they come.

He'll blow half on a pacey but average striker, probably with experience due to the pressure to find goals...Zamora or Odemwingie.

I listened to the Guardian's podcast last night and one jounalist on there, a mackem, said in response to the mention of MON "We are only about 10 points behind Newcastle now, we are catching them up, we can do this, COME ON!" (or words to that affect)

So even the supposedly educated ones are obssessed with us.
