Qatar is likely be stripped of its chance to host the 2022 World Cup, according to a FIFA whistleblower who was a former senior figure in the country’s bid team.

Phaedra Almajid, who turned whistleblower to expose the corruption, has said the abundance of evidence of the wrongdoing in Qatar’s bid would force the world football governing body FIFA to relieve the Gulf country of the responsibility of staging the tournament in 2022.

Almajid is an Arab-American based in the United States who worked for Qatar’s 2022 bid till early 2010.

Qatar shocked the world by winning, in 2010, the right to host the 2022 event. Since then, allegations of bribery and wrongdoing about their bid have been rife within FIFA.

Almajid said she hoped justice is done but that the prospect scared her a lot as she fears some “extremists” may identify her responsible if Qatar is punished. She is under protective custody of America’s Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) but fears for her safety, should the oil-rich country lose out on hosting rights.

“There are people who are pissed off with me [for speaking out], and what really pisses them off is that I’m a female, Muslim whistleblower,” Almajid was quoted as saying by dailymail.co.uk on Saturday.

She also said outgoing FIFA president Sepp Blatter might take away the 2022 tournament as part of his reform agenda to win him praise “and save his skin”.

Blatter quit days after winning a fifth four-year team to become president after getting engulfed in the FIFA corruption scandal. He is under investigation by the FBI for possible wrongdoing.

“I just don’t think Blatter actually intends to quit. Everything he does is very calculated. He’ll try very hard to save himself, I’m sure of it,” Almajid said.

The FBI arrested seven top FIFA officials and indicted 14 people for financial misdemeanour. Almajid said efforts to force her into retracting her comments have taken place earlier, which forced her to take protective custody in fear of her family’s safety that includes two children, one of them severely disabled.

“The FBI have everything,” she claimed.

Almajid also co-operated with a FIFA-funded probe led by Michael Garcia, a former US attorney for New York.

If not for the countless hundreds of people who have needlessly died building the stadiums, it would have been more satisfying them getting the World Cup and then being stripped of it. That's the real tragedy.

Was Portugal and Spain.

Thanks both second place  finished nations deserve to get the tournament.

No they don't. The votes were cast in a way to get the favourites for the bidding out, then the next favourites.

For example England were knocked out in the first round of voting, Holland then went out in the round after that with less votes than they had in the first round. The question is why did Holland have less votes in the 2nd round than the 1st when Holland were already still in contention of winning the bid? Votes for other nations should have only gone up due to the votes of England now being allocated elsewhere.

La Liga has sued FIFA in the CAS, due to losses related to the switching of dates for the 2022 WC.

Nice O0

I'd like all the leagues to just give FIFA a big fuck off and continue with their fixtures like normal, wouldn't work obviously since the players would want to play in the WC. Would be awesome if it turned into a B-tournament because all the stars stayed home and played for their clubs (since it's in the middle of the season).

Emmanuel Frimpong: Ex-Arsenal player reacts to 'monkey chants'

Former Arsenal player Emmanuel Frimpong was sent off playing for Russian side FC Ufa after he gestured to the crowd with his middle finger in response to alleged monkey chants.

The midfielder, 23, was playing away to Spartak Moscow in the opening game of the Russian Premier League season.

"When the match was stopped, the fans started shouting 'monkey' at me," said Ghana's Frimpong after the 2-2 draw.

"I just did not keep my cool, I showed my emotions and it was my mistake."

Frimpong was shown the red card after half an hour of the game in Moscow, with the score at 1-1.

He wrote on Twitter  after the match: "A human being shouldn't be racially abused for the game that I love. I'm going to serve a sentence for being abused."

Ufa general director Shamil Gazizov said his club would not be calling for Spartak to be punished, describing it as an "unfortunate incident".

"There were people who could have shouted things. These are emotions which go away after the game. We are partners with the red and whites and are on good terms," he said.

"What Frimpong did was wrong. Sometimes you even have to hold back the tears and just put up with it."

Russia hosts the next World Cup in 2018, and Frimpong added: "Abused... and yet we going to hold a World Cup in this country where Africans will have to come play football."

Manchester City and Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure, who has been racially abused while playing in Russia in the Champions League, has previously said black players might boycott the World Cup unless the country tackles racism in football.

Last season, Torpedo Moscow's Congolese defender Christopher Samba was banned for two matches for gesturing to fans following racist abuse.

There have been more than 200 cases of discriminatory behaviour linked to Russian football over the past two seasons.

But in March former head of Russian football Vyacheslav Koloskov said too much is made of racism in the country and has also questioned why monkey chants are assumed to be racist.

Predictably appalling response from the club and the league. Do agents when arranging deals for black players going to Russia give them warnings: 'you're going to be racially abused and you're the only person who will get any blame for it'

how the fuck Russia gets away with being part of anything, Uefa, UN etc when they have such barbaric and shitty human rights issues is beyond me. They have utter disregard for anything other than themselves, such a shitty set of people, they're like gypsies. one rule for them one rule for everyone else, the world cup there is going to be an absolute mess.
