Eh, that's the actual reasoning for it? I mean it's not like he's grappling for position with Thiaw, he's just pushing him out the way while the ball hits his hand. That's even worse.

I don't think it's a pen like, the ball is just kicked up under his arms when they're on the back of Thiaw. Would be very annoyed to concede it.

I also don't think it was a pen fwiw as ridiculous as that still is  Players hold eachother off in the box all the time, unless you expect players to stand in the box with their hands by their sides and just let players back into them hands are going to be like that. The ball didn't travel far and he didn't move his hands to block it.

I didn't realise there wasn't much after it, from the still it looks like a throat grab, in reality it was just a push away. I can't get my head around how the ref saw the booting of someone as a yellow

 Only just saw this on Reddit and came straight here. Tbf I can imagine a context where a ref might be lenient (maybe they’d been fouling him constantly throughout the game and the ref had already doled out a ton of yellows) but the fact he’s right there looking at it is hilarious. The perfect candidate for a question “so ref, talk me through your thinking there.”
