I'm pretty sure that in order to bring him to a club two points above the relegation zone after 21 matches we would have had to tell him that we had loftier ambitions for the future than simply staying up.

Not a nice quote to read from what is now one of our best, most consistent players. Why would he even say this with so much left on his contact? It's almost as though he doesn't see the club going anywhere.

What's changed from when he signed for us & now, other than Cabaye no longer being here?

Club showing no ambition?

Bang on the money. Debuchy showing a hint of discontent was somewhat inevitable. The sale of Cabaye basically told the players what our long term ambitions are and it may have very well started something very bad within (but of course we have no way of knowing this for sure but I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case...).

No point signing for us other than to put yourself in the shop window. Back to the dark old days of Beardsley,Waddle, Gazza leaving. In between we decided when a player left- even Andy Cole was a conscious decision.

We have gone full circle from the McKeags and ended right back to square one. I blame John Hall, the bar-steward buggered off sharpish with a giant bag of loot and damned be the consequences.

Can you blame any of the players, it's got to ridiculous levels of s****.

It really has. We've become a stepping stone and have become a club of nothingness.

Aye, just drifting aimlessly in the sea of the Premiership. Thing is with Captain Pardew at the helm, we'll end up on the rocks at some stage.

It really has. We've become a stepping stone for French players as well as becoming a club of nothingness.

Thing is, I could just about be comfortable with being a stepping stone club. You look at Spurs and they've sold Carrick, Berbatov, Modric, Bale and probably a few more on to bigger and better clubs but the key difference is that they've pumped all of the cash made from being a stepping stone club back into finding more players. We've banked it.

They've got the ambition to move the club forward and compete to win as much as they possibly can. Being a stepping stone club can be accompanied with realistic ambition and they've got it/done it. Players come and go all the time and I've long since passed the time where I take a player for granted, moving players on at a profit is acceptable as long as the club shows enough ambition to reinvest all of the proceeds into moving the club forward. That's what's lacking.

Exactly, Spurs will sell but are willing to spend to replace.

Next season is going to be a fucking car crash.

We're going down IMO.

I wouldn't be at all surprised.

Ashley's too often keen to push his negligence to dangerous levels.  We're in a position where we need to rebuild, he'll want to do it on the cheap... or nothing.

The other downside to all this is that those players they think they might sign may well have second thoughts now.  They could probably have got Grenier and Cabella in January but now other clubs are interested in them and they will see our better players wanting out.  Grenier has the same agent as Remy so they will know exactly what is going on.

At this rate, it won't be 6 or 7 players we need, it will 10+ and how on earth will the club cope with that with the way they conduct their transfer business.  They will have to get a move on because if they leave it late (and the World Cup will mean a lot of business will be done late in the window), we will barely be able to put out a team for the opening game of the season.
