Beren
We have no right to slate Man United supporters for being glory hunters. For the one Korean Scunthorpe United supporter that I'm sure exists somewhere on this Earth, I'm probably just as much of a glory hunting cunt. It's all relative. What I do hate is people who purport to 'support' Man U when in reality they just follow the brand name. They'll never go to a game, hell, they won't even watch the games if they have anything better to do. The club barely touches them emotionally at all but for them Man U is a successful brand that they just want as part of their image, like wearing an Armani suit or driving a Mercedes. These very same people are almost unerringly the most arrogant and belittling towards supporters of other clubs. They are scum of the Earth and should be rounded up, put into a labor camp, and forced to watch Stoke v. Stoke Reserves for the rest of their natural lives. Froggy, however, is clearly not one of these. I agree with this, but on some level, some part of me doesn't. I've got some Man Utd-supporting friends who know a fair bit, watch games etc - and others who will just take the piss out of me () for Newcastle winning jack-shit I obviously don't discuss football with the latter, but even with the former I struggle to have a genuine footballing conversation with them - fans whose clubs who have always had success in their lifetime are another breed of fan altogether, I think. I don't think it'd make a difference if he was born slapbang in the middle of the Old Trafford centre circle either.

Interpolic
Even though there was only a minute left it was a right kick in the teeth to end the match with 10 men while that rabble still had 11 on the pitch.

(goes for 'second clubs' aswell). i'm always interested to find out why people support the clubs they do and i'll decide for myself if th reason is legitimate or not. A few years ago for my dissertation I looked at domestic and national team supporter pride. One of the main reasons for supporting a team was because of family i.e. someones dad supported team A so they supported team A. Not really surprising, but most people would prefer success for their domestic team as opposed to their national team. A very small percentage just followed the national team. A lot of the lower league fans supported a Premiership team as well which was quite surprising as it got more coverage and the chances of success were greater...they must have chosen Newcastle as their team mind! I think many supporters (though certainly not all, and maybe not even most) have the same gut feelings I do. My gut instinct is to scorn most supporters of other teams that simply chose their team without a geographical/familial connection, but love all supporters of my team that did precisely the same. Hypocrisy is at the centre of it, because there is an inherent hypocrisy/dichotomy in club identity. Clubs derive some of their identity from their locale, but some from their owners/followers/TV audience etc etc. I like to think that Spurs are rooted in their community, and all clubs clearly are to some extent, but the funding and support has changed so much over the last 40 years (let alone since the Premier League started) that it is, at least in part, something of a delusion. Anyway, so far so fucking dull . There are two schools of thought if you're from/connected to the UK - you either think it's OK to support whoever you like, or you think there should be some family/geographical connection. I tend towards the latter. If you're from abroad then what oldtype says comes in. At that point, it's "the more the merrier". There's a reason why my major non-Spurs site is here. It's a great site, number one, I have some connections with the area (two) but also, fans here are closer to what I want fans to be. Mostly local, but a good number from abroad who didn't choose Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool or Chelsea. Or Man City, now. The only fans of those clubs I respect are ones I respect for other reasons, or locals.
Benwell Lad
I find it incredibly hard to believe he was ranting and raving like that without being abusive. And in any case it doesn't make it right. Aye, but it could be that Dean didn't send him off or report if there was no actual verbal abuse. Playing devil's advocate. Looks like you're right. Still think it's bollocks, and doesn't mention the ranting at the linesman either. Fergie doesn't do these things to get decisions overturned, he does it because he knows the officials are intimidated by him and his club. Works a treat. Bang on. Wullie
I've said before that Pardew does far too little moaning about referees IMO, particularly post match.
Yorkie
I've said before that Pardew does far too little moaning about referees IMO, particularly post match. He hardly has the moaning power of someone like Sir Alex, it would be pointless. Pardew chats shit 90% of the time, but at least he remains vaguely dignified. leffe186
Just watching the full game for the first time, about 20 minutes in. So far - terrible keeping by De Gea, but great work by Perch to get in the right place; Ba has been absolutely terrific; Cisse completely peripheral; your midfield nice and compact. Simpson has done very well (one comedy pass aside). Ferguson picked a strange old team, they just don't look at all impressive...apart from down the right. Compare your team with Villa and you're streets ahead.

wormy
At least it's being picked up on in the media. Wouldn't have been surprised if they just swept it under the rug themselves with a 10 word paragraph in a quick round-up section. On the other hand, what sort of coverage has Valencia's 'challenge' gotten?
Tiresias
With a day feeling better about this, at least we had some fight in us, more than can be said for rest of season. Knowing us though we'll drop our game for Arsenal and Everton. FFS (in advance).
