Hughton was expected to hold meetings with Ashley and Llambias just before games, and respect their footballing input. Former boss Kevin Keegan routinely ignored such interference so close to a match but Hughton, in a bid to keep the peace, always made himself available.

There is no suggestion he took any notice of the feedback he was given, but Ashley and Llambias regard themselves as knowledgeable football fans, whose opinion is valid on even small tactical matters.

Barton saying on 5 live that he knows of a big name manager who turned down the job because he was told he wouldn't be given full control over team selection.

Howay Joey you cock tease. If you have principles you should be prepared to die for them. Failing that, shut the f*** up.

probably Harry Redknapp

Not a chance was anyone but Pardew picking those teams like.  Picking s*** we paid f*** all for over more expensive buys would hardly be a Ashley thing to do.

Yup, no question Pardew's horrific use of the players that were brought in, as well as his complete failure to bring through younger players has led to this.

Their probably thinking to themselves look what Cabella is doing now he's being played!

Pardew has left permanent damage at this club man. Didn't play MYM, Cabella, Ben Arfa, Haidara, Anita enough at various times, and considering the money spent (which was a big deal in the owners eyes, I'm not surprised their trying to do this). Especially when we've all seen talent in these players when they featured regularly.

Abeid, Bigirimana, Sammy, Vuckic just left rotting in the under 21s.

I do think any future manager will be easier to remove than he was. He had an air of invincibility about him after the 5th place finish.

Maybe I'm being naive.

Indeed. If the manager can continually finish midtable he'll stay

So easier than Pardew then, who was allowed to finish 15th.

His average league finish was midtable.
