Official: Yoan Gouffran signs new contract with Goztepe

Speaking of wingers, what's happened to Roberts? Did he do much at Kilmarnock? Was the next big hope 2-3 years ago, he should be at the stage where he's pushing people like Gouffran out the picture as a squad player by now if he's going to make it

Wouldn't be my decision this, but if the manager thinks he's worth keeping around then fair enough, it's not going to break the bank and perhaps he was more influential behind the scenes than we realise. If we had anyone else in charge I'd be concerned about what it said for our transfer plans but not this time.

Reading the wording on the official statement on the club website, it does sound that it's not a simple contract extension, they sound very much like they are offering him a deal that they are not very confident that he will accept, so it could be a pay as your play type or a significantly lower wage than he is currently on.

Obviously we all trust Rafa, but there isn't a single scenario in any match that we will play where Gouffran will be needed or useful.

One thing I will say is that we really don't know what goes on in the dressing room and at the training complex. Gouf may play a big role in bounding the group together, perhaps that's why Rafa wants to keep him around.

They'll get over it, that simply isn't a good enough reason.

Oh the joys of being "versatile"

Didn't do Anita any favors.

I had the oppposite reaction of most on here. Didn't want to keep Anita, not bothered about Gouffran. The transfer fees not spent on a replacement utility/Cup specialist, will go towards a better player--one that'll keep Gouff on the bench.

Bah. Apart from a purple patch during the first month or two of the season he was poor/average even in the Championship :anguish:

Aye, I can only remember a goal vs Villa as what he's done in 2017.

There are occasions where clubs decide to keep players purely based on their attitude and character in the dressing room, I think this could be one of those occasions.

I don't think Gouffran is good enough for the premiership but he may prove reliable, emergency cover, especially in the early rounds of the cup.

We also don't know the ins and outs, if he's desperate to stay and take a pay cut, fair play to the bloke. Not going to knock him for loving the club.

I kept half an eye on his progress, mainly through the weekly loanee reports on dot com, sounded like he didn't pull up any trees and was a sub quite often.
