Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has told SportsDirect News that Joe Kinnear is acting as a ‘transfer co-ordinator’ after the 66-year-old returned to the club earlier this summer.

Kinnear, who managed the Toon between September 2008 and February 2009 before ending his tenure due to health problems, was appointed as the Magpies’ director of football in June this year.

After his appointment there were suggestions that Kinnear had been brought in by owner Mike Ashley as a move to take control away from Pardew, but the Newcastle boss has since welcomed his arrival.

Pardew has now revealed Kinnear is currently acting as a ‘co-ordinator’ of transfers, and is helping him juggle the responsibilites that come with being a modern-day manager.

Talking exclusively to SportsDirect News, he said: “It’s quite simple really, it’s not too different to what we had before with Derek Llambias [who resigned as managing director in June]. Mike [Ashley] and Joe [Kinnear] work the finances of the football club.

“Therefore I have to make sure, with Joe, that we’re approaching players in the right financial bracket for us and that we’re doing the right amount of scouting.

“Joe’s job is to co-ordinate that and put it all together. So he has my input, he has [chief scout] Graham Carr’s views and also Mike’s opinion as well in terms of the finance.

“Basically, he gives me a ballpark figure of the sort of player we can perhaps afford and me and Graham give him the targets we think it works for. Joe then works towards finding a solution and it’s as simple as that.

“There’s a lot of mediating between the owner, agents, and the owner of the other football club that needs to be done and, in truth, it’s difficult for the manager to find the time for it because there’s the media responsibilities, the team and with my staff I’m managing about 50 people at this training ground.

“It’s not easy and transfers, particularly what we’re trying to do in finding a striker, is possibly one of the hardest things to do in terms of co-ordination and time and we want to get someone in before the start of the season but, then again, we might not.”

Shut up Alan.

Having to try and explain how it all works on a weekly basis sort of tells its own story IMO.

And the longer it went on without signing someone the worse it got.

It looks like we are going to have the strike power we have been missing last season, but it still needs a manager who understands how to pick a balanced 11 that work together as a team. Pardew hasn't got any excuses this season so it should be a good one as far as he's concerned.

Remember when some thought he was going to resign over all this?

Aye as if he would resign for a job he way under qualified for, blokes pissing himself at how lucky he is.

So if we get Remy and Gomis.  He should have the players to be able to compete in most home and away games.  The excuses are running out for him, but he'll still get them out as usual.

From some of the idiot fans maybe, not from Ashley and Kinnear.

Yup. And there's no doubting the story has evolved since Kinnear's first public interview on Talksport.

I'm just trying to forget about it, really, but it will be difficult to avoid. I expect we'll be hearing about the dynamic between Pardew/Kinnear/Carr/Ashley constantly until one/several of them leaves.

Wonder if Kinnear was reprimanded for not going to the much more prestigious Cunts Direct News.

He is so fucking small time. Horrible little negative bastard. Sick to death of hearing about Europe now like, he has it on a par with aids. That's it Alan, lets go all out to be bang average. Hurry up and get sacked.

Not in the slightest bit arsed about what he does or doesn't "say" in interviews. I really could not give a f*ck. All managers talk utter crap in press interviews. One good season, one bad season - what happens next? I hope he gets a balanced squad to work with, he did not have that for a good chunk of last season. Remy coming in looks good, another striker, a decent defender and a winger (or two), and if we hang on to our best players he has to deliver or die imo.
