TheHoob
Possibly WOAT: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25418135 Imagine footballers being able to give notice! Imagine the wages footballers would be on if that came into effect, the Daily Mail would have a meltdown. No need to stump up transfer fees but you could put the money into their wages to make it less affordable for other clubs to buy out the contracts. Village Idiot
Possibly WOAT: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25418135 Imagine footballers being able to give notice! That's *exactly* what happened in Spain and the reason there are transfer clauses written in contracts (which are actually penalties for early termination), since otherwise players could cancel their employment contract like any other member of the workforce. I don't think there's even need to pay up the remainder of it.
Guest palnese
Didn't realise how many of our players fuck about with their socks for matches. Tiote and Shola are doing this: http://www.trusox.com/how-to-wear-trusox.html Trusox are great. They're well expensive, mind. Paid 30 quid a pair, but that's Norwegian prices. I've never seen them in any sporting store in England.
jdckelly
Possibly WOAT: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25418135 Imagine footballers being able to give notice! kiss goodbye to the majority of small clubs throughout the world if that happens and a new era of huge clubs and players on even more ridiculous contracts. wormy
"Footballers are workers, and only when they enjoy the rights enjoyed by all will Fifpro be satisfied," said the union's president, Philippe Piat. Love shit like this. Clearly not compensated enough by the wages they get in comparison to that which 'all' are 'enjoying'.
Village Idiot
To be honest, it makes very little sense that footballers don't have the same rights as any regular worker, high wages or not. And it's not like all footballers earn premier league wages.

Village Idiot
What's so whattable about it? As I said, that's exactly how the law operates in Spain, clubs just found a way around it with the release clauses.
Interpolic
Imagine if players could just move around as much as they wanted, it would be fucking outrageous and it would make the sport a complete joke.
Village Idiot
But, from a legal point of view (and yeah, I'm no law expert) it's hard to explain having a subset of workers not being able to cancel their contracts like others do. I have always thought it's a matter of time an EU court stamps on this, like it happened with the Bosman ruling and free agency/unrestricted registration for EU nationals. To be honest it's sort of there, that's how you got Jonas.
Interpolic
If it became a free-for-all where players could move at will then that's the end of the credibility of the sport. They know what they sign up for and it's a far better profession than most.
Exiled in Texas
The flip side of this is that that they could get released from a 5 year Wes Brown style contract with only two weeks notice so there goes the money. Of course it all depends what the contract between the club and the player stipulates, and what each side has agreed to to get the deal done.
Tiresias
Surely what would happen would be it would become like American football and players sign contracts with the FA or something rather than clubs and then are allocated / traded between clubs who then pay the FA the salary or something. If players cancel the contract with the FA they won't be able to play.
