The Premier League has announced that the French national anthem 'La Marseillaise' will be played ahead of all matches this weekend

Man, we were so far ahead of the curve embarrassing ourselves a couple of years back.

I researched a bit the "merger" news and indeed it seems that the Portuguese League is pushing for it. However, I really can't see La Liga going for it for the reasons I mentioned.

I'm really against the whole superleague concept, even if it would be class from a big club fan standpoint - since we would make the cut - it would totally suck for the small, storied clubs that would be sacked off as a result. We should work towards propping up the small clubs in big leagues and the smaller leagues in general. UEFA should be more socialist and spread the wealth.

For starters, redirecting CL money to the EL so clubs playing in the European second tier could seize it as a chance to grow, would be something easy and with meaningful results.

I'm a few pages behind but wouldn't the whole super league thing be shite for fans too. If I was a Celtic fan, I wouldn't be afford to go to Amsterdam, Copenhagen etc. every other week for away matches.

It would be a fantastic gesture if after the first few bars of La Marseillaise , every fan sang "Love, love, love" repeatedly in falsetto voices, just like the all time greatest, The Beatles did for the world in 1967.

Remember all you need is love, love.

Love is all you need.

There's something beautifully poignant about a minute's silence at a football match imo. Not anywhere near mawkish or attention seeking enough these days though. I've absolutely no doubt that if the death toll were less than 90, they'd be asking for another minute of applause.

Well said.

I get the sense there's just so little else to bring fans at the ground some pride about the club. By the 17th minute this season we've usually either been behind or down to 10 men

So come the time, many must think yeah let's do that thing.

Morrissey is a weirdo cunt.

By the way, the families of John and Liam did ask the fans to stop applauding, right? Anyone have a link?

“At every Newcastle game last year, home and away, there’s been applause on 17 minutes to remember John and Liam.

“We can’t believe that’s gone on for an entire season, and really appreciate the thought.

“It’s not something we imagine will continue into this season, certainly not all around the ground, and I’m sure John of all people would be most happy if fans were concentrating on football and supporting his team.”

Favourite racist: Morrissey.

Favourite racist: Morrissey.

?

I think some of his accusations of racism are not fair, but calling Chinese people as a 'subspecies' is blatant racism. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/06/morrissey-chinese-people-_n_706471.html

Anyway.

I don't believe he was calling people in China sub-human because of their ethnicity, or 'racial' (whatever the fuck that really is) difference. I  think he, in his usual unbowed fashion, is saying endemic behaviour of this sort (skinning cats and dogs alive) is beyond the pale of humanity. I don't think he is stupid enough to believe that all Chinese people have the same view on this issue.

This really needs more traction, maybe alert the club to it? Not simply because it's doing my head in.

I hope so, I can't speak for what he thinks, but the statement itself " You can't help but feel that the Chinese are a subspecies." is pure racism - not "these Chinese people" or "some Chinese people" but "the Chinese".

Are we still clapping on the 17th every match like? I heard it in the first week or so but thought it had died out?

Morrisey is blatantly racist man. I think people just ignore it or excuse it  because The Smiths are mint and it doesn't correlate with the things he sings about.

I think the fact the family don't want us to do it but we do it anyway tells you everything you need to know tbh. Pointless posturing at this stage. Being in an away crowd when our fans had a pop at the home fans for not joining in was embarrassing as fuck. Saying that, Grief Ultra-ism is a nationwide phenomenon, mind.
