Dave
Remember this? http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-transfers-darren-bent-transfer-2048554 Manager Alan Pardew wants Aston Villa and England forward Bent to play just behind his No.9 Papiss Cisse, linking play and regularly chipping in with goals. Of course he does. Well... @CaulkinTheTimes [bent] is an almost cast-iron guarantee of goals. Although Pardew wants to play him No 10 link role, interestingly. Ash
Caulkin should have said 'terrifyingly' rather than 'interestingly'. Imagine Bent as a #10, ffs.
Dave
@CaulkinTheTimes he played that role under him at Charlton, apparently.

Ketsbaia
While we're at it, let's bring back Steve Harper as a striker in case Gomis falls through.
Ronaldo
I don't remember him playing that role at Charlton at all. He'll likely want Bent in the Ba role when he was with Best, as the slightly deeper striker ghosting into the box.

Tiresias
Why buy a striker who can hold the ball up and combine with another striker when you can buy one who can't and you can try and make him do it anyway? Enter the keeeerazy world of Alan Pardew

Dave
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/fulham-join-newcastle-5million-darren-2071175 The Dutchman has made the signing of an out-and-out goalscorer his priority Why does he want Bent then? AlanSkÃrare
Bent linking our play? It's on par with having Williamson taking corners.
Hanshithispantz
There's no way he wants to play Darren Bent in a proper #10 role man

Pilko
Bent linking our play? It's on par with having Williamson taking corners. There's more chance of him scoring from one that way tbf.
toontownman
Makes total sense.. Gomis Williamson Colo Jonas Tiote Cabs Cisse Bent Obertan Shola
Crayola Kid
Is the no10 thing Pardew's way to evade direct questions about Cisse leaving? From day one of the confirmed link to Bent, the worry has been that Cisse would be leaving. Since then, the Wonga shirt thing has become serious enough for Cisse to miss the Portugal trip. He's a goner IMO, and Pards is spouting this 'clever' (in PardsWorld, obvs) story about playing both together just to avoid going public just yet
Guest Phil K
Villa aren't going to drop the price, because we are in a mess thanks to the clueless twins of Pardew and Kinnear, so just bide time for Newcastle to panic before deadline day after 3 big defeats. You know, if Ashley ran Sports Direct like he's running Newcastle, with useless incompetents like K & P in managerial roles, he'd be bankrupt. Jack Flash
We've handled this transfer so badly. We waited and waited for the price to drop but with Benteke staying and Cisse "leaving" the price has probably doubled.
Sifu
Darren Bent, a player whose general all round play is questionable and who is more famed for scoring goals rather than creating them for others, is potentially going to be signed to play in the number 10 role? What sorcery is this? Pardew been sniffing paint again? Should have kept Harper on and play him as a striker then.
KDT
We've handled this transfer so badly. Mole_Toonfan
Metro ( i know i know) said we have turned to Gomis. I actually think this is a good thing, Gomis at least Pardew to play his long ball game and make it effective. Also said in the same report we also want Remy, which is also a good thing as i feel that both Gomis and Remy represent the types of strikers we lack. Target Man to hold the ball up and a pacey forward who runs and stretches defences. Although it does say also if we did get those two in then it could mean Cisse would leave. http://metro.co.uk/2013/07/21/newcastle-close-on-bafetimbi-gomis-and-loic-remy-to-raise-doubts-over-future-of-papiss-cisse-3891848/
Pilko
I bet with a proper/decent target man such as Gomis playing the long ball style will look a lot better, whilst still daft and stupid, it'll at least be effective a bit.
