Froggy
Mourinho getting this iteration of Man Utd to 2nd place and winning the Europa was a hell of an achievement in hindsight. And - although this is one of those daft can't prove for shit comments - I'd wager he'd have got them closer to a Champions League slot this season than OGS. Problem was always believing and giving him the full backing. Easier to blame Mourinho than want to accept that Martial and co aren't up to it. You mean next season? We gave ourselves a great chance of getting CL football this season under Solskjaer and that would have never happened under Mourinho. There were two defining moments. Once Herrera came out of the team due to the contract issues and when Ole was given the permanent role. The likes of Pogba/Martial just dropped their tools again once Ole got the full time job as they had nothing to prove anymore. It's an awful attitude and it's why they have to be sold. Zero
That’s exactly why I said Jose should never be sacked when the problems are players’ attitude. The problem still exists, if not gone even worse. It’s simply a power struggle between Woodward + players and the manager. And you sacked the manager with highest calibre in the world. You know all these stuff could be prevented if Man Utd gave Jose just 40m to get Toby last summer. End up the defense was still shit, Jose get around 20m compensation, Ole in dead walking mode and Man Utd out of Top 4 again.
David Edgar
Yeah, Mourinho knew they needed another good defender but got pelters.

Froggy
I totally agree like with the exception being I actually wanted Mourinho gone. I hated/hate his attitude and his brand of football. That being said if you hire a manager they need to be the one making the footballing decisions. Not spending £40m on Aldeweireld was stupid, as was turning our noses up at £40m for Perisic. Two areas we drastically needed players, and two areas that still haven't been filled.

You can't let assets like that go on a free. Regardless of his attitude he's an excellent player, maybe some other manager can get the best out of him. £250k though. Fuck me. And we wouldn't give Herrera £200k and he'd die for the team.

The core problem (players attitude) was there since Sir Alex retired and this has to be solved ASAP. It’s basivally a cancer, just like Ashley to us. STM
It's dead easy to blame the attitude of the players though. A good manager can solve most situations. My belief is that Ole is the sacrificial lamb here. He spends 12 months clearing out the shite, blooding in some youngsters/ new signings and then a top manager can come in and take over a much healthier ship. I think that's what's going to happen. Away Day Gadgie
Love Hughton but he had to go really. Smart move if they get someone decent in straight away. He’ll get a decent gig elsewhere i’d imagine.
jdckelly
they have been diabolical this season, they survive due to utter incompetence of others rather than any ability of their own
St1pe
Love Hughton as well but they were one of the worst teams I’ve seen play this season - especially the away game that we somehow didn’t win.
AyeDubbleYoo
I don’t think you can argue it’s a mistake to sack him really. They’ve done just enough to survive. Fair enough if that’s down to the quality of their players, but they should be allowed to roll the dice on the manager.
Froggy
I'm not really sure how much Brighton have spent but what was the goal other than survive this season? Bit harsh I think.
County Durham Mag
They are awful so it's deserved. He's spent too much time spouting total bollocks about how Black and ethnic people are discriminated in football as he sits there a millionaire

Big Geordie
Hughton is a very decent man, but this has been coming since New Year.
The College Dropout
It’s tough on Hughton but that team is stagnating. He’s not shown he can make a mistake PL team. Some awful transfers too. He’s no track record of being able to maintain mid table like a Hughes. This is one of those that could go either way for Brighton. Could easily sink or they properly become a mid table side. As for Man Utd. problems bigger than a manager. LVG laid some decent ground work for a young side. Then went opposite end of the spectrum with Mourinho who wants 27 year old players all the time. Undoing a lot of LVGs work without allowing him to build a solid foundation of his own. Awful in the transfer market for some time. It’s been years since Liverpool made a bad signing. samptime29
Brighton have been pretty gash in 2019 tbf, but he's taken them from relegation candidates in Championship to the Premier League within a few seasons, and he's kept them up 2 seasons in a row (without even being in the bottom 3). Personally, feel it's harsh, and he deserved to still be there, but it's the Chairman's decision and we'll have to see how it pans out.
The College Dropout
Any football club is only as good as it’s ownerships abilities and ambition. Liverpool and Spurs are the best run teams in the league and it shows. Under Levy it’s been 15 or so years of progress.
Odear
Not surprised at all. He didn’t have a great year in fairness. They were a good side the year before though, it might have been just a case of a couple of players who think they should be elsewhere upsetting the apple cart. Player power over the last decade has been disgusting.

Probably invested less but there’s a clear gap between us. We have a manager with a higher ceiling. A relegation battle looks Hughtons level.
