The Managerial Merry Go Round™ - Silva leaves Fulham

Probably had a bigger say on English football than 99% of other managers, you’ve got teams in the Northern League playing daft short goal kicks when the pitch is a mowed field at best and the players are absolutely shite.

TBF wasn't it that rubgy coach that Southampton hired that introduced that to the Premier League?

I don’t get the Maresca appointment at all. I understand they want continuity, but his football at Chelsea was so slow and predictable.

He won that competition for the best club in the universe

It's mad like, he won a pre season kick about and the champo, city are just another cartel club with this appointment .

I sort of get the Maresca thing. It’s a continuation of obsessive based possession football. Someone who’s worked with Pep and won’t require a whole squad over haul. I also think time has been kind to Maresca as Chelsea have completely bombed since he left. He got a lot out of some very over rated players despite how much it cost to assemble them.

It’s sad for the Premier League as a brand I suppose but I’m pleased Pep is leaving. He’s achieved continuous success where others with money have failed. They’re one of those clubs that just seem to destroy us more often than not - I know we’ve had a couple of wins over the years. It’s never enjoyable to watch us play them.

He’s got blood on his hands for gifting this title to Arteta though [emoji38]

Pep's football is slow and predictable. Just with better players.

Personally I think his legacy at City is tarnished by the 115 charges. Throw limitless money at any team and odds on you'll win things.

The charges are an asterisk for sure but I don't think they've spent more than three or four others and he's won is it six Premier League titles in nine years?

Let's just hope this is lego heeds one good season and his percentage hoof ball has been found out. I don't think It'll work again next season.

The rest of the league, us included, need to get their fucking act together to stop it ever happening again.

I think it'll still work to whatever extent referees are directed to stop persistent and blatant fouling in the box at set pieces and whether they actually do it or not.

Tactically, though, I expect Xabi Alonso to bring something that will trigger the next evolution in how teams play. Think he'll either play something with a back three, some sort of version of the 4-2-2-2 Man City were/have been close to in certain games this season, or maybe even a false 9 type system to overload midfield but also still have use for the 20 wingers they've got on their books. Be interesting to see, shame it's at Chelsea but pleased it's not at Liverpool, as I'd convinced myself he'd set them up 3-5-2 and get Isak and Ekitike firing together

As opposed to what they have been until this point?

Yeah

I think City are the best run club in the Prem, and if they continue to recruite the best players in the world, and maintain their winning spirit, Maresca will be fine short / medium term

Might get flack for this, but would love to have seen Luis Enrique take the job. Firstly we are no where near catching city, secondly he plays the best football in the wirkd to watch, thirdly I dread the titles going back to Man U/Arsenal/Liverpool

Still don't think Arteta is all that tbh.

Perhaps not but he is pragmatic af and has always looked to fix whatever didn’t work the previous season. They can worry about being nice to watch once they are proven winners.

They've been the most successful side In the country over the last 10 years.

Would still rather see the title won by football rather than set pieces which are mostly successful because refs don't penalise shirt tugging in the penalty area.

I've convinced myself that him going and a relatively underwhelming planned appointment in Maresca (I like him but he's hardly proved he's Pep's natural successor) are pointing to a proper booting on the financial impropriety side about to land

Imagine 96/96 was ro repeat itself but we were to come 1st instead of 2nd next season? Really think no European campaign, a good window that helps to solve our current issues and a well prepared amd problem free pre-season under our belt will give us a good chance of having a good season ahead. We had a pretty weak season before then95/96 title tilt, similar to this one. Hopefully, we get this one out of the way on Sunday and look ahead to a brighter future.
