In a season completely devoid of any joy, during my most apathetic period of being a supporter, he still doesn't even start Hatem Ben Arfa at home against Crystal fucking Palace or Everton.

I know these aren't good options, but would you swap it for a relegation battle.

If he had us in another relegation battle with that squad, barely any injuries and only 3 cup games to get in the way?  What point are you trying to make here, if any?

Probably none as usual.

This hurts guys.

See above.

 Oh right, we've done "so well" so we're having a moan about being 8th.

'So well' just means no worse than we have. I also said it doesn't mean we should be satisfied. But no worries about ignoring the actual point again.

Missing the point again.

The point you started with made no bloody sense in the 1st place.

Ah here man.

Fuck it, not worth the ban.

I can't live without knowing what you were going to say, you tease.

What I mean is that I know our season is deeply average, but we've sort of earned the ability to complain about being 8th. If we hadn't done so well we wouldn't have time to think about the bigger picture, we'd be sweating over every point.

Not that this means we should be satisfied, but it means we should keep things in perspective.

What does that have to do with him not starting Ben Arfa when the season is already fucked, why is he depriving us of that tiny bit of joy?

Nothing, I never said it did. Slightly confused why you're asking, I think he should start Ben Arfa.

 The actual point, from you.  We've had almost everything stacked in our favour this year, with one of the top 7 or 8 squads in the country.  So what the fuck you're talking about preferring this to a relegation battle for I couldn't tell you.  Ironically or not you've ignored my points - squad quality, no injuries, barely any games.

Still, good news on the chocolate oranges...

 so appropriate.

I'm not starting Ben Arfa, Lynn.

But, if you do, you can keep the...

Lynn, I'll just talk over you. Try finish your sentence and see WhY I do.

If you do you can...

I'm not starting Ben Arfa, I'm not starting Ben Arfa, I'm not starting Ben Arfa, I'm not starting Ben Arfa.

"Hatem bloody Ben Arfa. What a great player. He really encapulates the frustration of a flair player. He picks the ball up on the right, he runs around the defenders, he'll try taking on one too many players and you think "Hatem bloody Ben Arfa".

"I really hate to break this to you Alan, but he doesn't track back".

"Doesn't track back? Ugh. I'm not playing him anymore."

Mick alluded to it early but the shittest thing about this whole situation is you've got a few dozen regular posters on here, who, let's be fair, know their football but aren't going to be passing any coaching badges anytime soon, who can systematically point out all the flaws in Pardews team selections/tactics, see the alternative and explain why it doesn't work and why the other way would.

This fraud has been making the same mistakes over and over, how can he not see it? A sign language trained chimp could set out a team better than this gimp. The Ben Arfa thing is beyond a joke now and just smacks of petulant arrogance, Wullie is bang on the money about this guys ego, he's said there's no future for him, he can hardly make him a first team regular now can he?

The fuck nugget is in over his head, doesn't know how to compete in the premiership and sets us up to hang on, contain and survive. He's barely even a league 1 manager, yet some still choose to back him up. This isn't the Toon Army I remember, this is an apathetic, apologetic group of mediocrity accepting no hopers. Well done Ashley and Pardew, you've killed the club I love.

Tonight's the worst I've felt whilst he's been manager. A suicidal team selection for no reason other than to massage this cunt's massive ego.

Fucking scum.

What do you mean by the ego bit?

He's far too magnificent a man to swallow his revolting pride and pick Ben Arfa from the start of a game.

If he had that much pride he'd have left him out of the squad altogether. But then Remy wasn't fit so he had to bin his flimsy principles and bring him back to save his arse from the bench if desperate measures were required.

He didn't even do that though. He did what he always does against teams that aren't utter wank - waits until 2-0 down then puts him on and blames him later.

Not even worth debating this tbh, it's all a sideshow anyway. No doubt Remy will be back for Pardew's triumphant return to the scene and we'll pull of a couple of wins which will stop the sheep from wondering why Everton are now CL contenders despite having less money than us.

Sick of his Gouffran malarkey. So little width and threat from out wide. Makes the playing of two strikers that seem to thrive from service in the box completely pointless as there are so little options for delivery. Sick of our slow play as well. Keeping the ball and possession play is all well and good but it actually has to lead to something with some pace and movement to hurt the opposition.

If he had any fucking sense, he'd be building a side around HBA and Marveaux.

Don't care what shit he spouts - these two showed tonight that they have the attacking quality that Sissoko, Anita, Gouffran, Tiote, Cisse and de Jong all lack.

If he had any f***ing sense, he'd be building a side around HBA and Marveaux.

Don't care what s*** he spouts - these two showed tonight that they have the attacking quality that Sissoko, Anita, Gouffran, Tiote, Cisse and de Jong all lack.

I can see a slight problem.

The worst part of it is most of those aren't even bad players, but then if you played a team made up of 11 Debuchys or Coloccinis it wouldn't be a team of bad players either. Pardew's main worry is always about what the opposition will do to us, even at home. No wonder Hayden Mullins was considered more important than Tevez in his time at West ham.

Last 14 matches:

Won 4

Drew 1

Lost 9

Scored 10 (7 of which in 2 matches)

Conceded 22

Thank fuck we didn't rest on our laurels.  My letter's in the post.

Those stats look mighty skewed. We need a Happy Face analytical breakdown with charts and graphs supplied to explain what a great deal we have been getting during those games.

Not that we like a collapse but we haven't scored in a defeat in the league since October v the mackems. Great resilience. Only done it once at home v Hull all season in the PL n all.

I won't count cups because they're not priority.

There's no individual brilliance to bail him out now. If he was in the least bit creative and forward-thinking then he'd be looking to get the lads really playing positive stuff while our season has no other meaning. How hard can it be to set up a style of play that suits the people that are meant to get you goals? They mightn't be great strikers but, bloody hell, at least try and gear things towards them a little bit. Try and speed things up or spread the opposition's defence out a bit for crossing... Do something!
