Strange how the top clubs never seem to have this issue...

Nigeria international Ogenyi Onazi has been denied a work permit to play for English Championship side Birmingham City.

Birmingham had agreed terms with the 24-year-old to sign him from Turkish club Trabzonspor.

However the Football Association turned down a first application for a work permit for Onazi last week.

An appeal made by the club was rejected on Wednesday despite Onazi being a regular in the Nigeria national team.

BBC Sport understands that the player and his representatives are bitterly disappointed that the panel rejected an appeal.

Onazi has played 38 times for the Super Eagles and helped them to win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and reach the last 16 of the World Cup in Brazil a year later.

However Nigeria's failure to qualify for the past two editions of the Nations Cup has affected his chances of securing a work permit to play in the English Championship.

Despite appearing in over 80% of the national team games, Onazi failed to earn a permit after the FA considered the West African nation's world ranking in the past two years.

They are ranked 38th in the August 2017 ranking, but Nigeria finished 54th on aggregate over the past two years.

Onazi joined current club Trabzonspor from Lazio last year and scored twice in 27 Turkish Super Lig matches last season.

Kevin Prince Boateng to leave Las Palmas on a free 3 months after signing a new contract, for "irreversible personal reasons".

Think we're going to be in trouble this season. Losing Setien, Mesa and KPB in one summer will impact us massively plus our few signings have been really underwhelming apart from Vitolo ofc.

£18m?

There's no way I'd be accepting anything less than £30m for anything Man City was interested in. No matter how s*** it was.

That's true but even with all the inflation of footballers' transfer fees, if Evans goes for £30m it'll be mental.

It's also brought back memories of him trading hockle with Cisse that time. Absolutely ludicrous.

That seems ridiculous.

Is Draxler quick? Didn't seem it in the few games I saw from him.

One thing that stood out yesterday, with the exception of Alba and maybe another - Varane could catch any Barca player while givin them a yard and a bit headstart from near the halfway line. Did it to Suarez twice and it was a bit shocking. Real lack of pace and dynamism.

Nah he's not, technically gifted playmaker though. If you could train him on the defensive side i could see an argument for him to replace Iniesta as i assume that's what they want Coutinho for.

They should definitely want someone faster for the Neymar replacement though.
