LRD
Fine if you are happy with sissoko on the wing. Grenier only plays through the centre. The irony considering Sissoko is a central midfielder.

loki679
I'd like to see Anita get more game time ahead of Tiote this season. I'm not convinced we need a pure DM in the side and I think it's a bit of a waste of a place.
Lotus
Tiote looked quite slow last season. On top of all his other problems! Inexplicably, we still look worse when he's not in the side. Colo and Willo will really need someone to protect them. I wish we had options. I might add that i still don't think Anita is capable of this. I can deal with it as long as there's genuine creativity in the side, its not ideal obviously.
LRD
Yeah, in the event that Cabella unfortunately gets crocked for a big part of the season or fails to bed in early, we will be reliant on the industry of our players and for the other new lads to hit the ground running. Seeing as our other two creative players are in exile, it will be hit a long ball and rely on the pace of Riviere or de Jong turning up in the box. If you had creative player out left and then someone like Grenier than you can proabably getting away with the hustle and counter of Sissoko who would keep any defender pushed back afraid of his pace and strength, esp on the counter. Add to that a person like Grenier who can pass the ball and it should probably work in theory.
toontownman
After all, it's good players that win matches not formations as the King would have you know.
Dave
http://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2014/newcastle-had-clement-grenier-offer-rebuffed-several-weeks-ago/ Get French Football News understands that Newcastle United made an offer for Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier during the World Cup, only to have it rebuffed. The sum offered was judged to be insufficient by Lyon, but the player was also not keen to join the Magpies, having solicited interest and a bid from Arsenal for his services last summer. The player has every intention of leaving the club this summer, but for a team that can offer continental football, preferably in Spain, Italy or England. EthiGeordie
Olympique Lyonnais continues to remain faithful to its policy that empowers young people, but is nevertheless subject to some economic logic. In fact, Clement Grenier could leave his former club in the coming days when interesting offers. And Newcastle United is already set to this folder. Yattara Mohamed Nabil Fekir Jordan Ferri, Yassine Benzia, Fares Bahlouli Rachid Ghezzal ... The young shoots of Olympique Lyonnais should be even more important this season at Olympique Lyonnais, including guided by some seniors only older but more experienced, such as Alexandre Lacazette or Maxime Gonalons, decided to stay despite several requests from Europe. Jean-Michel Aulas still believe in this project set up there a little more than three years to respond to a difficult economic situation during the project construction stage of Enlightenment. Hubert Fournier took over Remi Garde, but the changes in the professional workforce will be reduced, reflecting departures from Bafetimbi Gomis and Jimmy Briand, while Christophe Jalletdevrait soon follow suit Lindsay Rose. Designated successor Cabaye? However, two players could still be persuaded to pack up before the end of the summer transfer window: Samuel Umtiti and Clement Grenier. "In late May, agents and Clément Grenier Umtiti Samuel told us they planned to play elsewhere. A good output they have been granted their request. But that does not mean they will leave," recalled recently President. But about the middle of tricolor international field, it could move in the coming days. Indeed, according to the Newcastle Chronicle, Clément Grenier really like Alan Pardew, the Magpies manager orphans Yohan Cabaye since January. That contained in the initial list of Didier Deschamps for the World Cup before forfeit could therefore run in the Premier League to join such other Frenchies as Rémy Cabella, Yoann Gouffran, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Moussa Sissoko, Sylvain Marveaux or Gabriel Obertan. Under contract until 30 June 2016 between the Rhône and Saône, the 23-year-old could fetch between 8 and 10 million euros to his former club. And under current economic conditions, this amount would be really significant for OL. From a sporting point of view, however, the attraction of French for Newcastle United is still questionable, the team that ended last year ranked 10th in the Premier League. But the English league is a dream and the Magpies can also serve as a springboard to reach a more upscale training later. http://www.sports.fr/football/transferts/articles/les-magpies-esperent-grenier-1085951/ …
Ketsbaia
http://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2014/clement-grenier-busting-the-myths/ It says the asking price is €15m but he "wants a club with realistic chances of European football".
Mole_Toonfan
If he were available for 8-10 we should be pulling the trigger, i know we have a lot of midfielders but none of them are that good. The fact Colback could be starting tells its own story, but we never do what's right anyway.
BillClinton
Most clubs would use this to their advantage, to a add a long-term target at a reasonable price. Can't see us doing so after Cabella and De Jong, especially when we still need to spend on a striker. Would love to see him here though.

Chicane
Would love to see us sign Grenier but I do wonder how you would make a balanced midfield accomodating the likes of Grenier/Cabella/Sissoko/de Jong. Most people are putting him with Tiote in the holding roles in a 4-2-3-1 but I would worry a lot about how much protection our defense would be getting from that. And let's face it, they're gonna need protecting. Of course you can rotate but I don't imagine us paying the kind of money needed for anything less than a bona fide first team player
