Keegan on signing “trouble maker” Asprilla "I've seen what other people say about him. They think he's a good player and warn about his temperament. But if I had signed players on the basis of what I heard about them, David Ginola and Andy Cole wouldn't have come to this club and the fans would have missed some great players." "You've got to have the courage to look at what you need and get the very best available. That's what I did. What other people think of players has never worried me. You listen to the talk, but you've got to make your own decisions. It's on the field where it really matters." "The crowd will love him. He's a match-winner, he's a goalscorer and he's an entertainer. He's a real Newcastle player - quick, works hard and has flair. Faustino's the sort of player that Geordies love. The players they talk about are just like him. They should sit back and watch this fellow."
Kaizero
Petition to change the thread title to “Hatem Ben Arfa (Now a World Class Padel Player)” guy won 70 tournaments last year and is ranked as one of the best pro Padel players in the world
Ellis H
I really, really love how much of an enigma he is both on and off the pitch. Nobody even knowing if he has retired is so him.

Paully
I tally forgot that he had the misfortune to play under that fat-headed Corbridge tosser! I'm glad he didn't fully realise his potential as we'd have never had the pleasure of seeing him play for us!

SteV Posted Friday at 09:15 Share Posted Friday at 09:15 Was at a talk-in with a Championship referee last night. “Who’s the most talented player you’ve ever refereed?” ”Hatem Ben Arfa”

Wasn’t really renowned for his pressing was he? Can’t really see how he fits in to any of the top teams in the PL with the way game has gone now. Maybe Chelsea instead of Palmer? Even then he’d have to run more than he used to.
Infinitely Content Posted Friday at 09:28 Share Posted Friday at 09:28 The maestro. Forever my favourite player of all time, nobody comes remotely close. Happy birthday Hatem.

He’d have gone the way of Saint-Maximin, sold after a season or so under Howe. Think Howe prizes the team and everyone buying into covering multiple roles for the team in a way that Ben Arfa would never have done. Ben Arfa was pure genius but he was far too maverick for Howe
AyeDubbleYoo Posted Friday at 13:46 Share Posted Friday at 13:46 Not sure there's any modern manager that would be good for him TBH. Mavericks aren't really valued. Should've become one of the best players ever, never witnessed anyone more talented apart from Messi.

Paully Posted Friday at 14:21 Share Posted Friday at 14:21 Possibly the most gifted I've seen up there - thankfully he was a complete fruit-loop so that we got to experience him during the Ashley days! He should have been at the biggest clubs in the world! I still hate Nigel de Jong too - pig!

Elliottman Posted Friday at 15:14 Share Posted Friday at 15:14 Hatem man, what a bloke. One of the best memories of the Ashley era. Used to go to the games buzzing to watch him. More often then not, just to find out Pardew had him on the bench 😫

Some of the stuff he did was perverted.
Hanshithispantz Posted Friday at 15:35 Share Posted Friday at 15:35 Just watching a few clips from his time back in Brazil. Why would you even attempt to lob a keeper, 2 yards off his line, at his near post?

I think there's a chance he has enduring success here under Howe.
