Better today but his deliveries from set pieces are woeful. He's supposed to be a specialist but in reality he's just shite. Charlie Adams corners in the last ten minutes had us under constant pressure. He's a pub footballer but his set dead ball stuff puts our lads to shame.

Excellent today - countless long, pinpoint diagonals out to the wingers which allowed us to go from defence to attack really quickly. Much more like it, although as KI says Adam and Allen gave him acres of space to pick his passes. Clearly a great option against a certain type of opponent though.

My concern is that a lot of times he just lumps it directly to the other team. Especially when we have our backs to the wall, as a senior MFer, he needs to hold the ball and be a lot more calm and calculated.

Edit: Still played some great balls out to Murphy today, though. And definitely one of his most improved games for us recently.

He really doesn't. He's usually either trying a very difficult attacking pass or is looking for runners into channels when we have nothing on. He certainly doesn't just lump it long back to the opposition.

Because of this and the fact he's one of the few willing to take risks with his passing he will naturally give the ball away a lot more than our sideways and backwards merchants.

Watch the last few games when he's not played well. I do think this is a symptom though of just him constantly looking for those attacking passes, as you've said, rather than Dummett-style lumping (that's not what I meant). I think maturity really needs to come his way, both for his temperament and overall play.

Again, no complaints today. He even closed down and pressed higher up the pitch today to break up their absurd long balls.

Agreed, he needs better players around him for us to make the most of us passing ability. He did well today. Merino suffered from similar problems against Brighton. No one else wanted the ball and he kept giving it away as a result.

On the basis of talent he's our best player.

On the basis of application and consistency in accordance with that talent, he has to go. If he can't do it regularly for Rafa who can he do it regularly for?

Last year he looked a cut above, this year he looks talented but unreliable. Can't do with that at this level. In a better team he might get away with it, but we are shite and nobody good is remotely interested.

It was a demonstration of why he wouldn't be effective at #10 - he's at his best pinging 60 yard balls, which has no value when you're 40 yards from goal. Further, he's afforded space in his own half/centre circle, but he's not going to get that on the edge of their box...
