“It would be massive for Newcastle to keep Rafa as manager,” said Townsend, signed from Tottenham for £12million in January.

“He’s one of the best managers in the world. If we can keep a manager of that calibre, and keep doing the right things, we will build.

“We will not cut corners and we’ll build for the future and come straight back in the Premier League, and not just in the top flight, but up there challenging, because that is what the manager wants to do.”

He's the sort of bloke that will Google the opposition manager and coaches before a match just so he knows who he's shaking hands with and doesn't just walk up to the physio and kit man. I love him.

its a struggle to make sense of why in gods name he would think it a good idea to stay when he can get any number of better jobs in england or abroad, best I can come up with is since he's won leagues, cups and european trophies maybe he wants to build a club up but again there are clubs where that won't be half as difficult or have to deal with an owner where the only consistency is the stupidity

I think just because his potential role is so big and the ceiling for NUFC is so high. Not often you get a chance to run a club as big as this and take it wherever you want.

Wonder what Charnley's role will involve, now?

Can imagine the two of them getting ready to sit down to discuss terms with an agent, Rafa telling Charnley to just shut the f*** up until the deal's agreed, then he can step in and present a contract.

Someone needs to hold Rafas pen and then kneel down so his back can be used as a desk

admin role in day to day stuff and sorting whatever paperwork and other official stuff is needed on transfers, he's probably reasonably competent at that side of the job just lacks any leadership ability in the slightest

We're the only English club, and quite possibly the only club in the world, to have had an average attendance of over 50,000 for a season outside of the top flight... If this comes off we might just do it again.

Just a Wee Club in the North.

We didn't even average over 50,000 this season.

One of the things that I keep hearing said by "experts" doubting Rafa's ability to manage in the Championship is that it is such a slog playing two games most weeks.

 :idiot2:

Why do they think it is so much more difficult than playing two games every week when you are playing in Europe each season.
