Players we've got who can play CB Mbemba Lascelles Dummett Hayden Mbabu As I said would prefer another specialist CB in but if we didn't for whatever reason I think we would be OK till Jan at least. afar Posted July 13, 2016 Share Posted July 13, 2016 It would be a huge mistake not to add at least one CB, we lost 2, 3 if you count williamson leaving in Jan. We could get lucky with injuries, you never know but that's not the Newcastle way and we are really thin in that dept right now. Lascelles, mbemba, hanley with hayden, dummett, gamez and maybe other younglings to step up should be fine. Might also be frugal to get a loan or wait til January anyway so we know where we are at. We really don't want to be playing players out of their best position if we can help it. One of the reasons we got relegated is not having proper cover for injuries and suspensions. Apparently Janmaat had never even played as a centre back before we had to deploy him there. We had 4 specialist centre backs last season and at times we were down to one of them due to suspensions and injuries. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

That would give us Gamez/Mbabu at right back, Lascelles, Mbemba, Dummett and Hanley at centre half and Haidara/new left back. I really like Lascelles and would be keen to see him develop further, playing week in, week out. If memory serves, Rafa chucked Taylor straight back in at the expense of Lascelles in one of his early games. That was after seeing how bad he was previously. Was it Southampton? Was he walking down Grey street and saw a monkey in the window doing sign language but Lee hadn't brushed up on his sign for ages, so rather than knowing for sure, he only understands that Hanley wants to come to us? You're only as strong as your weakest link - we can't be dropping points because we've got players out of position at CB and teams launch it long and catch us out. Although coming in as a sub, I think he would get a fair amount of game time. Rafa's a manager who likes to rotate and with Mbemba being away for 6 weeks in January then I think he'd be alright.
