Newcastle United transfer rumours in the press

That's the spirit.

I guess two wins and Ashley has got a reprieve from this summer's p*ss take with the majority of fans, they're no longer foaming at the mouth as much as they were - best not rock the boat, support the team, etc. The international break came at the best time for Ashley, he's got more cake than Kiplings - I had a feeling something like this might happen though. I still think it will all fall apart at some point and we'll get relegated though  :hmm:

That's the spirit.

Holy ghost!  :kasper:

Agents don't negotiate contracts, they hire lawyers to do that.

Agents have an important task - they separate the business and sporting side of things for the player. A player can focus on training and playing while the agent will take care of all business relationship with the club - relationship that's very complex in modern football. This is a valuable and important task, but the problem is all the perverse incentives that have emerged for agents, like the bonus payments for engineering transfers.

Fans complain about agents, clubs complain about agents, but I don't really see players complaining about agents and they're the most important people in this issue. I also don't see why fans complain about agents, they're only working for the players. The rise in incomes for footballers is a good thing, even if clubs lose money (which they generally don't).

Players gaining power vs clubs isn't a bad thing. But at the end of the day it's superagents like the Mendes and Raiolas of this world who end up wielding much of this power thanks to the sheer amount of players that they control, and that's not necessarily a good thing. See for example Mendes using Valencia as his personal shopping window for the players he represents, which has been brilliant business for him but terrible for Valencia. Atlético were in a similar position until Simeone put his foot down.

  • 4 weeks later...

I really hope that the club is up for sale and this is just Ashley being tight until the transaction closes.

That's the spirit

Why else would Rafa put up with this?

Pure speculation, I know. I'm clutching on to any hope.

Aye, I'd go for Batshuayi as well. Icardi if Rafa's feeling radge. Insigne, a LB and a GK.

Insigne and Icardi aren't realistic

The former is the first quality #10 that came to my head. And I know, unless we throw money around like maniacs.

More of a winger than a 10 really. Even if we do get loads of money most quality players won't leave till the summer anyway unless they aren't getting a game where they are

How's Batshuayi? He's the only striker Chelsea have behind Morata and is being used often, don't see why they'd sell him unless they bought someone else themselves
