New deal for Dwight Gayle — now will he get games?

Uncertainty swirls around Newcastle United at the moment, with Steve Bruce’s side just two points above the Premier League’s relegation zone with nine matches to play. But striker Dwight Gayle has committed his future to the club by signing a new three-year contract on reduced terms.

The 31-year-old’s deal was due to expire on June 30 but he has agreed an extension that will keep him at St James’ Park until the summer of 2024.

Gayle has started only two Premier League matches this season, scoring once against West Brom in a 2-1 win in December, but was selected for Newcastle’s 1-1 draw against Aston Villa earlier this month.

The striker then, however, watched Newcastle’s 3-0 defeat by Brighton from the bench, despite his side’s chronic lack of goals and the absence of the injured Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin.

Gayle was promised a new deal till he got injured then it was put on hold, the new deal was put on the back burner ,he then spat his dummy out and refused to start games ,must've sorted it now so he,ll prob start a few more

I'd rather this be a proper discussion and not a 'pile on' like the poster Joey Linton thought it might be but why on earth would you want to give this club your heard earned money.

Beggars belief.

Ah so it had feck all to do with Dwight Gayle, a clause in his contract which the club acted on. I bet this feels like a prison sentence for him, especially under Steve Bruce.

Yeah complete prison sentence. Being paid to do fuck all. Gayle's legs have gone, he's laughing all the way to the bank with news. There's no way any other club would've gave him a 3 year deal.

We’re going to be starting next season with about 3/4s of the team who were down there last time.

Darlow

Dummett

Lascelles

Clark

Hayden

Shelvey

Ritchie

Gayle

I don’t imagine too many of those being head hunted by Premier League clubs next season either (Lascelles might get Burnley or someone if he’s lucky)
