And the response was always the same, they need to move to push on. Push on ffs, it was never ever gonna happen. If we were ever in that position I'd like to think our fans would lay down in front of the bulldozers, but I'm not so sure anymore. I used to think so as well but not a chance these days. I have no issue with clubs moving to a new stadium, it’s where they are often located and how soulless and identikit many of them are. The West Ham move was total Bollocks from the off and even if the move worked or works, they have no identity at the moment. Move, relocate, but don’t try and rebrand the whole club as something it’s not and never will be. A club like ours could sustain a huge increase in capacity, I’m not so sure West Ham can. Sunderland have struggled, they should have kept it at 35k, Boro 25K perhaps. I’ll say it again, we have it good with our stadium and it’s location and I’d hate to move away from NE1. I’d rather stay where we are than move some 60k super stadium built on a field or industral wasteland. Sadly our stadium is looking dated, but that can easily be improved with some investment. Until we start investing in the type of player who can perform, on a regular basis, in front of 52000 crowds, our stadium is more of a hindrance. Wonderful though it is. That wasn't the case though. In their last season at the Boleyn they finished 7th with their highest ever Premier League points total. Liverpool were 8th, Chelsea were 10th. Many West Ham fans believed the hype, they really did. The fact that they had been underwhelming/terrible for years and years was immaterial. There were naysayers, but there were many who felt that this was a great opportunity. I think the fact that Levy thought it was worth making sure that they didn't get to weasel out of any commitments down the line wasn't simply sour grapes - he knew that a local rival (of sorts!) getting a "free" stadium with good infrastructure right down the road could be a problem. You cannot run onto the pitch, you risk causing long-term security issues for all clubs really and if someone went on the pitch with say a weapon... bloody hell it doesn’t bear thinking about. That said, fans are p*ssed off and feel their club is being taken away from them so what are they to do? I personally feel the way AO went about things is the best way. A more vigilante kind way will probably make owners think twice, however. I mean in Italy for example what has happened to us and WH just wouldn’t be tolerated. Someone would be dead by now or in hiding. Long-term things need to happen because you have powerful individuals who can do as they please with a club. The government, FA and PL need to make it tougher to own a club and there needs to be some kind of fan ownership scheme in place at all clubs because what is happening is a fuckimg joke. Anyway good on WH fans for displaying their angst, regardless of how it manifests. So long as no-one gets killed. Said this in another thread too, but the amount of money West Ham have spent to go backwards is criminal. Going down and getting shot of those two schysters would be the best thing for them. They’ve got a few decent youngsters and really should rebuild. Any team with James fucking Collins starting as a PL centre back in 2018 deserves to go down.
