Rafa Benítez (now unemployed)

As in Brendan Rodgers? He’s much better than anything we’ll get.

In a normal world, you would be pleased with Rodgers but we'd end up with more of the same.

The lack of money would leave him in trouble.

I don't think Rodgers is any better than average and seems a wanker to boot. Wagner did okay but... meh.

If Rafa goes then surely we are in "burn it down" territory, and therefore an overrated smarmy cunt like Rodgers might be a good choice. Perhaps too talented, though. Get Joe back in the dugout to replace Rafa

Rodgers is a good coach, but he’s another fraud in terms of his patter. He’d need good money as well. Would much prefer Wagner. Both would be uninspiring choices and I could see the job being too overwhelming for someone like Wagner anyway.

If the club allowed Rafa to go man

Rodgers would be a dream for those who just want to attack all day and lose to City 5-0

He’s a possession merchant, but it rarely translates into any sustained attacking play of note. If fans think Rafa’s tactics are boring or negative, they’d hate watching a Rodgers’ team pass the ball back and sideways relentlessly in our own half before launching it long or getting all the way to the opposition box before losing it just outside.

Liverpool played some superb stuff under him, but they had Sterling, Sturridge and Suarez on fire plus a rejuvenated Gerrard in midfield and even then they blew the title.

The following season saw Rodgers true to form.

I'd like to see him try to produce successful passing football with substandard players. He'd have no chance, Wagner would probably be a better bet.

No one's going to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear though, Rafa is getting better results than either of those two would with the same resources. Ashley won't care though, strict financial control is what matters to him, he's obviously sick of not being able to push the managers around like he used to.

Seemingly so.

He did pretty well their first season up with Danny Graham his main centre-forward and Mark Gower appearing in midfield for half a season.
