Interpolic
What's that chant from Man Utd fans to the tune of "If Shola scores..." with Man City in it? They've been chanting it the last 5 mins or so.

Mbemba Youre A Womble
Graham Poll is there just to comment on bad decisions ultimately. I'm of the mind that football fans really don't give half as much of a shit about refereeing decisions and controversy that Sky, BT, Talksport, BBC think they do. Their just manufacturing a false interest, instead of possibly talking about how Mourinho might have approach the game to get a result. Coverage of football now just seems focused around refereeing decisions that are actually peripheral to what is happening on the field. Fucking boring. Disco
For some reason they've already done the QF draw. Must have a big guest booked on Mondays One Show. Balls were warmed accordingly it would appear. Man Utd v Brighton Leicester v Chelsea Sheff W/Swansea v Rochdale/Tottenham Wigan/Man C v Southampton
Mbemba Youre A Womble
So strong chances that semis will be 4 out of the 'big 6'. This will no doubt see an about turn in the narrative of the FA cup being a competition of dwindling interest. Suddenly it will be thriving competition, that all big teams take seriously with all fans joyous all across the land.

louistoon
I was in total agreement with the discussion on On The Continent recently re: offside (23:30 here if anyone wants to listen: https://www.acast.com/onthecontinent/odegaard-aubameyangandtheoffsidelaw) I hate all this precise examination of heads, shoulders, knees and toes (knees and toes). It's really not what the law was designed to eliminate from the game i.e. blatant goal poaching. 20 years ago, if someone generally looked level, they were level and everyone was happy with it. Now that we have HD TVs, we've got the camera looking for a shoe lace creeping in front of the last defender. This. Pedantic nonsense.
Wullie
MOTD showed the farcical shot that BT showed, then a different graphic straight from VAR HQ with straight lines but the lines were still clearly wrong because they weren't parallel with the edge of the penalty area, surely? Mbemba Youre A Womble
Maybe there should be a certain degree of human error, or dead zone, where in which if it falls within a certain degree it sticks with the linesman's original decision. Like in Cricket - an umpire will give a call, it can go to review, but if found not conclusive it sticks with initial decision.

Yep, not a clue what they were making a decision based on. The whole thing's a farce.

STM
Totally agree with Wullie. Mata was technically offside but gained no advantage and his movement was great. If they got every 1cm decision correct, then ok but we will see similar scenarios every week with entirely different outcomes, VAR or not. We should sack this off ASAP. Figures 1-0 Football
The reason I hate it so much is the prospect of someone scoring a last minute winner and nobody being able to celebrate for 5 minutes whilst people clarify on the TV if someone’s nose hair was offside. Totally sanitises the game, fuck off with it. I’d rather accept the wrong decisions then have to put up with it.

Where is the profit here? It's more potential loss than profit. e.g if a team doesn't get into the Champions League on the back of an incorrect refereeing decision. And Adverts during VAR reviews? Bimpy474
While they got that decision right, it went against the way it meant to be used. Pretty sure the guidelines for offsides etc were 'a clear and obvious error' which in the Mata case it wasn't. Still going to take time to get this right but they have to speed it up, get the communication to the crowd and TV going and use it correctly to their own guidelines. joeyt
Graham Poll said afterwards that the 'clear and obvious' stuff is for penalties, red cards, mistaken identities etc and not for offside for what it's worth

I suppose offside is a fact, it is or isn't. Still a long way to go with this like.
