Meh, not too arsed about this tbh. Was a very solid keeper under Benitez and kept us in countless games under Bruce in 2019-20, but since he came back from injury circa March 2021 he's been in average at best form. Has had a few clangers in him since whether that be poor game management, commanding his area or just poor shot stopping.

That's only an issue if you see us as rivals though.

I reckon most see yous as the weakest of the top 6 and if we're to target the top 6 then yeah we should see yous as rivals.

Haven't looked into this at all, but if he's not recallable its a mistake.  We should basically be using Manure to keep our second keeper sharp so we can recall him if needed.  If either him or them weren't happy with that then tough.

 what purpose would recalling him serve? There won’t be a squad place for him until January

He has performed much better that ever expected for us. Well done, proved me wrong!

He deserves this move and the club is willing to let him go - just hoped for a permanent 5 mill transfer and not a loan for this season only.

Everything you said in the last sentence seemed to be the things he was really good at when he first joined too

There were rumours from long before the summer that we were looking to upgrade the goalkeeper position, not making excuses for playing badly but that has to effect your psyche? It’s a strange move to go somewhere else to be another second choice, surely there was another club he could have gone to where he’d have been 1st choice?

Looks like the loan has an obligation to buy once a number of appearances have been met.

Hope that clause is only 1 or 2 appearances, or we'll not see a penny.

Unless De Gea has a few disasters in the next few games, Dubs will probably only get a few league cup games and maybe a couple in Euro/Conference league or whatever they are in.

Essentially he's swapped our bench for theirs. Maybe their Recaro's are more comfortable than ours.

Howe didn't sound too happy about it this.

He made the choice between Pope & Dubravka. He chose Pope. Can't blame Dubravka being unhappy and wanting away. It's not like an outfield position where you can show what you can do with squad rotation or off the bench. Unless Pope became stinking overnight, or injured, Dubravka's not getting a sniff.

Think Dubs has let us down personally.  1st sign of competition and he looks to leave.  Wont say anything bad about him as he did a good job for us but him leaving like this, leaves a bit of a sour taste IMHO.

Imo Howe can’t have fancied Dubs that much, his fitness record alone would have any decent manager asking questions tbh. Pope was signed as a number 1, not to provide competition for the shirt.

He likely would have expected Dubs to not want to stick around as 2nd choice. All in all the GK position is a lot stronger now even with Darlow as no. 2 - Popes fitness record is pretty solid.

Just to play devil’s advocate somewhat. Could Dubs not be thinking that Pope is the first of Howe’s signings to be given a direct route to the team, when even Bruno had to wait. I understand the flaws with this point of view but I could see it as a perspective at least.

Are there not a minimum of 6 Europa league games? He should look to play 2x as much at Man U than he would here. And no doubt he would be proud to play for them at this point in his career trajectory too.

This isn't some strategic move by the club. Howe wanted Dubravka here as backup to Pope. It's driven by the player, so it's a blow however anyone wants to try to frame it.

If Pope doesn't get injured or lose form then it's a very small blow. It only becomes a bigger issue if Darlow ends up having to be selected.

The thing I don't get is why we acquiesced. Why would we let him go for so little? He's got 3 years left on his contract plus the way that they tried to stiff us when we were supposedly after Henderson and/or Lingard we should have rightfully had their pants down like Ajax have repeatedly done.

I could understand and even support him leaving if he said he needed 1st team football. He clearly can’t see himself getting in ahead of Pope and must be happy to sit on Man U’s which is very disappointing. Hope he faces us in the game that triggers the move permanently and he has a ‘mare.

Are people wilfully not understanding that he’s likely to be getting European football as well as sitting on their bench for league games?

It’s a short career and if he gets to play in Europe for a bit of it by moving there and likely get paid more for it rather than just sit on our bench then I can totally understand him wanting this.
