For what it’s worth @LFEE, at the peak of my well meant (as in he is not very far from being the kind of top midfielder we need) Longy frustration I consciously decided to focus on what he was doing, or doing well, rather than any errors forced or unforced, or seemingly bad decisions. It did make a difference to how I saw him. It’s a lot easier to see this at a live game than on TV, as you get a much better sense of a player’s movement, closing down, effort and tactical nous. He’s a great player to have in the squad, but think I’d still take a punt on a Rabiot type as a replacement 😉

We’ve got 2x Miley, Tonali, Hall, White, Willock to play mainly with Joelinton & Bruno… Schar even Keep saying we’ve six big less games this season before it even starts. Even if we got to 2 cup finals it would still be 1 game less than last season. In an ideal none PSR world (am I allowed to mention it!?) I agree you keep or replace but I think it maybe used as a pathway spot which makes sense if most people are in agreement its his/the place in the team/1st team squad that looks easiest to upgrade on. AyeDubbleYoo
I'm not against that progression, yep, especially think Miley(s) and White look tidy. Hall and Tonali are accounted for though, they're already starters.

But happy to accept that I'm biased against him and might not be able to fairly assess it. The thing about unseen work is that you don't see it. Unbelievable
Two goals against decent opposition and this local lad’s thread is about to fall off the front page *bump*
SAK
Hopefully he’s over whatever injury he was playing through last season.
tinoasprilla
Gets loads of grief played last season injured for a large part. Compare that to Wilson who the minute he feels a slight niggle vanishes for weeks to Dubai.
Jinky
Never doubted him. England awaits!

Lotus
Put in a good shift. Run around loads and supported the defence well.

LiquidAK
Yeah he was back to his best today. Hopefully he's healed whatever lingering injuries he was carrying for most of last season

He wasn’t doing that at all last season. So hopefully he is confident in his own body again and not playing injured or worrying about getting injured. Fak
He did a lot of very good work off the ball today.

Ultimately Tonali will probably replace him and Willock will be pushing to start eventually but he has a big role to play squad wise.
nufcjmc
Playing like there is someone waiting in the wings to take his place long may this version of him continue.
SiLvOR
Was gonna say, the looming threat of Tonali taking his place will undoubtedly make him step up, which is the whole point in having a competitive squad of top players vying for that shirt. Good stuff

Newcastle Fan
He was a bit off it during the start of the game but did a lot of good work without the ball after the sending off, hope he can build on that for next game.

PauloGeordio
Seems a long time ago when this lad was missing with injury and we identified him as the big miss we needed at the time. Hope he finds his form.
