Well if the eyes or the stats don't pick it up, the argument will remain unresolved

Get the overall point though.

For what it’s worth @LFEE, at the peak of my well meant (as in he is not very far from being the kind of top midfielder we need) Longy frustration I consciously decided to focus on what he was doing, or doing well, rather than any errors forced or unforced, or seemingly bad decisions. It did make a difference to how I saw him. It’s a lot easier to see this at a live game than on TV, as you get a much better sense of a player’s movement, closing down,  effort  and tactical nous. He’s a great player to have in the squad, but think I’d still take a punt on a Rabiot type as a replacement 😉

I'd rather have him replaced, but I think we need someone.

We’ve got 2x Miley, Tonali, Hall, White, Willock to play mainly with Joelinton & Bruno… Schar even

Keep saying we’ve six big less games this season before it even starts. Even if we got to 2 cup finals it would still be 1 game less than last season.

In an ideal none PSR world (am I allowed to mention it!?) I agree you keep or replace but I think it maybe used as a pathway spot which makes sense if most people are in agreement its his/the place in the team/1st team squad that looks easiest to upgrade on.

I'm not sure I fully buy this unseen work thing, because I watch the games and don't see it. But happy to accept that I'm biased against him and might not be able to fairly assess it.

The thing about unseen work is that you don't see it.

Yeah he was back to his best today. Hopefully he's healed whatever lingering injuries he was carrying for most of last season

Went in for a massive 50/50 with Downes. Probably more 60/40 the other way and came out with the ball. He wasn’t doing that at all last season. So hopefully he is confident in his own body again and not playing injured or worrying about getting injured.

Was gonna say, the looming threat of Tonali taking his place will undoubtedly make him step up, which is the whole point in having a competitive squad of top players vying for that shirt. Good stuff
